hi
i bought new rtr 180 .AT WHICH RPM SHOULD i SHIFT GEARS. when i drive the bike in 2nd gear and slowed it to 10km speed and accelarate it but bike gets off...why this problem?

It all depends on how you want to ride it..

if you want to ride at a normal pace...try shifting near the 3k range( notice the engine note for my precise changes)..

if you wish to give it the beans...dont shift before the needle touches the red line.. :D

It is not a problem..when you are at 10kmph and at second gear..the rpm gets really low...so ride it with giving it a bit more of acceleration..and hold the clutch a little longer..

Dude, dont keep looking at the tacho and worry about what rpm to shift, up or down. Just relax and ride it normally. Dont lug the engine, in any gear, downshift as you feel appropriate.

UpShift between 4k-5.5k mark depending upon acceleration, and downshift if RPM drops below 3k. Usual driving: 3.5k-4.5k

That's just for intial practice. Then onwards just depend on the engine sound and don't worry about it much.

HI,
Thanks for replies.

I should drive my vehicle from signal for instant pickup . I usally be in 1st gear at traffic signal, then drive to shift one gear after the other. but this way i am not able to have instant pickup the bike....girls in scooty raise their bike from 0 to 50 from signal.....but for me holding clutch for shifting and acclerating a bit then changing makes....scooty overtakes me intial ......after i shift gear to 4th i fly.....

Scooty overtakes you :O

You are poor at your reflexes pal :P

I can bet that most of the people even with an R15 wont overtake me on a signal :P

Basically what ragzdiablo said is correct. Can someone post the gear ratios and idling RPM for the RTR180? Then maybe we can arrive at a more precise shifting pattern.

2nd gear at 10km/hr = stall. What is the RPM? Downshift to 1st gear or go faster. If its a temporary slowdown, then hold the clutch.

Usually this happens when you are a learner or you get a new bike. Just ride for some more time and you will get the hang of it. Change gears based on your speed and engine noise.

2nd gear at 10km/hr is ok. If you think you will stall down shift or hold just a bit of clutch so that you dont stall and accelerate

i think as a bike rider(if u have had enough experience),then ur instincts are gonna tell u when to shift....n the engine grunt too...

like @swordfish123 said if ur new then u need to have a little more practice....

Stop asking, Listen to the Engine....!!

If you want Quick pickup then you need to touch that redline (When a Pulsar guy tries to Showoff :P).

Normal riding I prefer 4K to 5K on my RTR 160, And 3.5K to 4K when I am freaking lazy.

If you don't want that Scooty girl to Overtake you, Then you need to touch near that redline in first gear a Quick Shift to second gear, near redline and another quickshift to third - Oh and the scooty far away from you [And you will be at next Signal].

You need to practice the perfect timing for shifting, and that you need to learn by experience. With enough experience you can start wheeling right from the 1st gear on signals :P

even my 150cc FZ16 touches 25~30 Km on 1st gear at times and 45+ on second and 75+ on 3rd. That way you will have insane acceleration that engine can give. Forget fuel efficiency :P

mmm... RTR is a short stoke engine which loves to rev. since all the latest bikes come with what is called a rev limiter there is no way that you could seize the engine by revving it high. just rev the engine till the red line in every gear and by the time scooty girls start at the red light you would be gone (doesnt work if you want to showoff before the girl :p)

if you are worried about mileage and stuff; just keep the revs below 5k rpm.

These engines are well tested and idiot proof. so no matter what you do wont screw up the engine as long as you are changing the oil at regular intervals.

btw, dont hold the clutch while accelerating; shift down instead. you dont wanna fry the clutch plates do you?

i am good at driving now. Flying with rtr. my bike was very smooth intially. one particular i hurted the buy, hold the clutch while accelerating severly. From then on, my bike makes rough ride. I put my bike for services then also no improvement. How can i recitfy it.

Another issue is braking , the rear brake doesnt work in first gear, and skids if i apply holding the clutch.

Already fallen down 5 times applying front brake on muddy roads........
