IMO the credit for that belongs to the infamous Sony Ericsson P series phones. They were the ones that popularized touch screen phones and demonstrated by their use of detachable keypads, that you don't really need to have a lot of physical buttons on a touch screen phone for it to be functional. iPhone is an evolutionary step forward and while it may have a few new things (while missing a lot of others), the credit for the tech itself does not entirely belong to Apple as they had acquired a majority of it by buying out other companies.

Steve Job's ability is not shaping tech or creating great products, but shaping the minds of the people. He can influence people to a great degree. He can convince a majority of people that they absolutely need to buy everything that they make regardless of how little use it may be to them. For Apple, loosing him would be fatal. The last time they had to do without him, they went as far as an inch away from annihilation.

Guys

It's Steve jobs that gave life to technology. With this vision for interface and hardware he revolutionized the way we use computers and gadgets today. Be it apple macintosh machines some 20-30 years ago or be it i-pod, or i-phone.

Now come on we all need a visionary like him.

I agree that apple devices are costly or over priced. But in the end of the day every body wants to earn money and his aim to return in apple was to save a sinking ship. Again when you know that your technology is a hit and miles ahead of competitors then you too would charge a premium for it.

there were hundreds of mp3 players and maybe many might have been a lot better then apple but in the end apple won the race and was miles ahead of the competition.

it was his vision for the future that from a sinking ship / going bankrupt he brought back apple as one of the top 100 companies in the world.

.... and that too by just selling mp3 players :)

guys we seriously require great visionaries like him.
 
I don't understand the idea of glorifying someone like steve jobs--sure he was a slick guy who could sweet talk loads of technologically challenged people into buying his overpriced crap but what he gave you in terms of looks he took away an equal measure of it in terms of practicality,quality(both build quality and over all quality) and features. Mp3 players were around ages before the ipod. Basically steve just nicked a lot of ideas from a lot of people (OSX, the mouse,etc,etc) and made it his own. He had a very good team of lawyers who practically sued anyone and everyone who had an opinion opposing his "Steveness" and then his herd of sheep(iDiots) who bought everything with the apple logo. He had the cheek to poke Microsoft in the face after the very same firm practically put alms into apple's begging bowl in 1997 to keep them afloat. Apple's herd sheep always forget that it was Microsoft who aided Steve. All i say is good riddance on his impending departure-the world will be a better place without apple and that narrow minded,self proclaimed do-gooder.

Hmmm... So according to you Apple copied loads of stuff... Fair enough but who is the one who has perfected it. Apple perfected the MP3 player and then introduced us with iPod. Then they totally revolutionized the mobile phone industry. 4 years back Nokia was No 1 with their Symbian smartphones. Who in the world now days wants to buy a Symbian smartphone. Not me. Then Apple perfected the tablet. Gave us the iPad. And trust me till date others are trying to cope up with iPad and Apple is already ready with the iPad 2. Its not coming from an Apple fanboy but from somebody who was anti apple and then realized what Apple has. I bought a Nokia 5800 and regretted it few hours after purchasing it. I wanted it to be a iPhone, and nokia 5800 was a iPhone wannabe.

I am sure steve jobs did not make any of these things but he surely made sure that whatever he is giving to the end customer should a satisfactory product. One should enjoy using his products. And then Apple care/service is next to none. This all was planned by him and today Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world. They have perfected the distribution of apps, music and quite a lot of other content and while they might have not developed anything but they certainly have perfected it.

As i mentioned in my earlier posts. Jobs is a great leader and if he is gone then we will lose a great leader.

And Yes, I don't see any apple user un-satisfied. And I also agree iPhone,iPad are way beyond and others still copy them.

Lol seriously? I am no fan of apple, but they have outplayed everyone by a huge margin, apple now is much bigger then Microsoft. Microsoft itself lifted the idea for windows in 1980's. However you look at it, they have been changing the game in whatever market it is entering, within 5 years of entering the mobile phone market they now make more money then Nokia ever did.

Apple never was the 1st one in any of the products, it was always the 1st one to do it right.

Steve Jobs is easily the biggest thing in the tech world till date, he has changed the whole industry.

If not for iphone we would still be using nokia running symbian poop.

True but then android wasn't developed by google either.But thank god these events happened.If apple and google didn't buy these tiny companies, like i said, we would be stuck using garbage phones like N97.

It doesn't really matter who came out with the idea first or who was the first to bring s feature to the table.The key here is usability.You can have tons of new features in your phone but these new features are a pain in the ass to use then what's the point of having it?Companies likes nokia were only interested in megapixel count of the cameras in their phones.Nothin else.And that's the reason their high end doesn't sell any more.The only ones buying them right now are rich uncles and aunties who have bought nokia all their life and know nothin better.

Loved their iphone.Would have continued using it if only it came with a 4-4.5 inch screen.

As far as news goes, DailyMail can be equated to be something like IndiaTV when it comes to reporting facts. Even the first link's header mentions "claims tabloid".

When I had posted this I was sure that most of the people will read the link and see that it is fake/rumour.

@sarang, I am sorry if my earlier post made me look careless.
