should be around 24K:(

.......until GTX 360 or somethin arrives in december:ohyeah:
5XXX GPU manufacturing cost is lesser than previous generation I hope ATI prices it well

@PhOeNiX

I understand. But then the processor and the motherboards also should have been more costly. But we get almost at same price or $10 extra max where as We have to pay almost 35-45$ extra for the PSU/graphic card. I wanted to know why this difference. :)

400USD sounds reasonable enough for a launch price on a card that can beat a pair of 4890s if the pre-release benchies are to be believed. Well then we also have this lucrative Indian pricing!

Not true. The node has nothing to do with manufacturing cost. It's the die size. Now because newer node often brings down die size, people assume that it will cut cost.

But in case HD 58XX it's not true. This is a new card and RV870 chip measure around 330mm2 with 2.1 billion transistors. That is over a billion transistors more than RV790 (HD 4890) and 70mm2 more in die size.

Also, 40nm is new process and yields *could* not be that great. Bigger die size+low yield = higher manufacturing cost.

And finally it all boils down to prevailing market conditions, price/performance and demand/supply. If HD 5870 is indeed matching GTX295, the price of $399 is better than what you can bargain for.

I don't understand one thing. Look at the processor prices in India and US. You can get the Indian price by just multiplying the dollar value to the prices in new-egg etc. For example, Athlon II X4 620 is priced ~$110 in US and here you can get one in 5.5k. Same goes about the i5 ones. But the scenarios in graphic cards are different. 4770 was priced $110 in US, Indian dealers were selling for 6500/- initially and then 7k even 8k. So who is making the extra cut ? Distributors or Dealers ? :S :@
Btw, the title says RV890 ?? :huh:

It is the Volumes. A dealer may not be able to sell the stock of GPU's as quickly as the Motherboards. So he may land up with some stock that is selling at a lower rate than even his purchase price because of rapid reduction in prices of these parts. Or maybe he has bought at a higher price and he is not willing to make a loss just because the price of GPU has reduced by $50 in US. I know someone who bought 3000 Atom based motherboards. I though it would take atleast 3 months to get rid of them. But they sold out in 2 weeks FLAT! Same cannot be said about the GPU.
