I found STALKER more than addictive. 
It infacts keeps u tied to ur seats once u are in the later levels. And add to it, it has non-linear gameplay so u have like so many endings and the story changes depending upon the decision u take in the game at several points which is too much fun.
But ya, it's way difficult even at the normal difficulty levels. Properly said, SAVE OFTEN.
