Without any fanfare Samsung made the Android-running S5830 Galaxy Ace official. The full-touch mid-range smartphone popped up on the Indonesian web page of the company, confirming all rumors we heard so far.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 packs a 3.5" capacitive touchscreen display of HVGA resolution. There's an 800 MHz CPU ticking under the hood and a 5 megapixel camera at the back of the Android 2.2 Froyo device.

As expected from even mid-range smartphones nowadays, the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 offers all kinds of data transfer options. You get Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi b/g/n, dual-band (900/2100 MHz) 3G with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE. microUSB and 3.5mm jacks as well as a GPS receiver are also on board.

We managed to get our hands on a pre-release Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 unit so we are able to provide you with some live shots of the device.

So with flagship models moving towards dual cores the mid-rangers are gonna get a shot in the arm :ohyeah:

So it looks like this got looks and screen size like the Iphone 3GS :P 800MHz Qualcomm, 5MP cam. Not bad at all for a midranger

Excellent specs for a midranger and if priced in the 15k mark it would be the new mid range King of the Androids. (Only competitor seems to be Moto Defy. But then its a moto :P)

Edit:
Qualcomm MSM7227
MSM7227 is a 600MHz proccy and this phone's spec says Qualcomm QCT MSM7227-1 Turbo 800 MHz . Dont know how they implemented Turbo boost like Intel :P Or is this a OCed version. Mobile gurus please shed some light on this please.

DEFY is way beyond this league :P the competitors are probably Xperia X10 Mini Pro, HTC Gratia, LG Optimus Chic, XCD35, Motorola Quench XT5

btw it's nothing but a oc'ed cpu

yeah. was carried away by 800mhz qualcomm. finally noticed the model no. defy is way better with the 800MHz TI OMAP3610 and 3.7" FWVGA screen

Seeing 800 mhz i thought its the Qualcomm 7230, but its the same old 7227, just overclocked. A decent device if priced well, this should not be more than 14k IMO.

Is it going to take HD videos? Any update on that? It is available on Indonesian Website of samsung but nothing is said about video recordings there.

+ Defy is from Motorola! The same company who INVENTED cellphones and brought Android to where it is along with HTC. Also taking about OC, you can OC Defy proc to 1.2GHz!

I would love to OC it, but i don't want to Root it as its brand new, i'll wait for Froyo update :)

This is done just to be on the safer side. Dont think they will have anything below VGA@30FPS.

The same with DEFY, no HD recording and still running Android 2.1

Then will it get ginger bread update, and i read some where that it will be retailing for 20000 rupees seem awfully high.
It would be foolish from Sammy's side to price it at 20k when the HTC Desire is 22.5k and the Moto Defy is ~18.5k. No way. 14-15k seems okish for the specs. Else people will opt for the Optimus P500 for ~12k

now Optimus One has real competition :D samsung is still not clear about the amount of RAM in the phone. My guess guess is it's 384 going by the user comments.

That is only a tentative pricing... :(
Yea Univercell's prices sometimes change wildly between "coming soon" and actualy launching. Plus all their prices are exlcusing VAT. If only the phone had WVGA. HVGA on a 3.5" screen dosent cut it. But at leasts its better than their other QVGA screens in the 3 inch range.

Even the iPhone 3GS had similar specs and was the flagship 7 months back ;)

So a 13k-14k pricing would be a good deal for this model.

Not really, all the high end droids were out by then. Nexus one launched January last year. Desire, Galaxy S, and even the wave were all out by March/April
