Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S4 Active, which is the rugged and waterproof version of the Galaxy S4.

The Galaxy S4 Active is IP67 certified for protection against dust and water. The fully sealed design keeps dust particles out and protects against water damage for up to 30 minutes of submergence at a depth of one meter. It also uses water-resistant earphone jack, so that you can still use earphones without worrying about water getting inside.

It sports same 5 inch Full HD 1080p display as the Galaxy S4 along with 'Glove Touch' technology. The camera is down to 8MP with Autofocus and LED flash and the front camera is 2MP.

It is powered by 1.9GHz Quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage with microSD card slot for expansion up to 64GB. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi ac, Wi-Fi Direct, IrDA, NFC, USB 2.0, Bluetooth® 4.0 (LE) and it has 2600mAh battery. The phone will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS out of the box.

The Galaxy S4 active will start shipping initially in the US and Sweden and followed by other regions. It will be available in three different color options, namely Urban Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare.

The Samsung S4 active is not a thoroughbred rugged phone. The true thoroughbred rugged phones in my opinion are the Moto Defy and the Samsung Rugby Pro (i547).
This is just give a mil spec certification to take on the Sony Xperia Z.
