Honestly, the new softer pen tips are garbage. But you should simply put on a matte screenguard, and use these tips


The writing experience will change completely. I don't consume much media, but even so, especially for reading, I really prefer the soothing matte screen to the regular one.

I have all the Tabs, right from Tab S2 (no pen), to Tab S8 Ultra. And I use them for their pen input.
 
I too did not intend to use it for media consumption or reading and knew that the writing experience would be a little compromised (wont be able to spin or toss it around or get the experience of writing no the fatter side of a notebook :D)

Though the S pen features are good, writing on smooth screen with soft tip is at times a hit-and-miss. Just adding a sound effect does not help.
But maybe its just me.

Any reco on the screen guard?
 

This along with a nice case will also work if you want to toss it around. I use the same matte screen for all my samsung tabs.

I don't apply them myself. I just pay 50 bucks to a local guy and get it done.

And the sound effect doesn't do shit. I have all sound effects turned off anyway. But with a hard tip and matte screen, things dramatically improve.

Good thing, you didn't get an iPad. Not only are those not moving these days, the writing experience is generally even worse on those.
