Video Samsung LCD or LED Tv USB/DLNA Media Play

Hi,
I see most of the LCD and LED tvs marketed in India and have USB or DLNA media play capability, do not have Digital Audio out. Instead they have L-R RCA mini jack. Bust same models in US or Europe have Optical Digital Out.
Through USB or DLNA one can play HD movie files .mkv, .mp4 or .ts. (yes it does not support DTS in audio but supports AC3).

Question is -
a) DOes it downstream AC3 to stereo?
b) How can I send the AC3 digital audio to my receiver from the TV when a MKV HD with AC3 is being played via USB.

If this features are not supported it may be better with less pricy 6000 series. For example the difference between LED 6000 and 7000 series is primarily this feature only.

So i would like to know experts opinion here.
btw, the picture quality is really superb in LED 7000 models even with SD mdeia.

The TV (in India) has analog audio out and hence it downstreams all audio to stereo. However in US/EU model they have digital audion out but no where it is documented if it can stream AC3.

I face too many problems with DLNA/USB MKV play back -

a) It won't pass AC3 rather it will downstream to Stereo.

b) It does not support playback of DTS audio (if it is there inside MKV). You may need to convert DTS to AC3 and put into the MKV file.

c) It does not support external Subtitle.

d) For .ts format it does not support AC3 audio .. it needs to be converted to MP3 kind of audio.

f) Some times playing over Network using DLNA would crash the DLNA server (Provided by Samsung).

g) A lot of MKVs could not be played over DLNA however those MKV files could be played directly from USB.

h) I tried some other DLNA server like tonkymedia however result was a mix. Needs to decode DTS there.

After my all those efforts I decided to go for external MKV player and ended up by buying Xtreamer. I am extremely happy with the performance. I now feel I should have purchased 6 series rather 7 series. The additional features are not matured enough. If you google , you will find that even with some Service level settings modification you will be also able to play MKV files (even HD MKV) files in 6 series also via USB. Alternatively you may ask the person who comes for installation.

But in absence of an optical audio out, how does one get AC3 audio anyway?

Samsung LED (6 or 7 series) in India does not have digital out - whether it is Optical Digital Audio or Coaxial Digital Audio .. Instead it has analogue stereo out. I guess it is because of TV tuner supported in India.. In India TV tuner is analogue whereas in other places TV tuner is Digital.

That's why no body gets AC3 when one plays (At least LED sold in India) mkv/divx directly from LED TV through USB/Network.

Phew ! I have B6000 40" and for about two weeks I'm searching for toslink to mini toslink cable to hook up my tv to my Onkyo receiver !

I thought Audio Out port on TV is mini TOSlink !! crap !

Thanks a lot , this thread cleared my mis-interpretations :D

Seems external media player is only a option to enjoy DTS 5.1 sound ... damn !
