Samsung P2350 23" Full HD Monitor

Hey guys, this is my first review ever, so pardon my mistakes if any!

Well, I was in a lot of dilemma as to which monitor would suit my budget of 12k best. The confusion initially was between the Dell 2209W, Benq G2412HD, Samsung 2233SW and the Dell 2409. I'd been to a couple of stores to check out the Dell and Samsung. Wasn't really blown away by either of the monitors considering I was upgrading from a 19" Viewsonic VA 1912WB. Then saw that Samsung had released a new series of monitors - so called Lavender series. Saw a few images online and the Specs were pretty impressive too. So i decided to take the risk as no proper reviews were available online.

Here are the images of the packaging. The accessories included were only a VGA Cable, Power Cable, Manual and the Driver discs.

[BREAK=Controls & Specifications]

Here are the impressive specs of the monitor, have copied it from the Samsung Website:

The monitor controls are done not by ordinary buttons, but feather touch buttons. The button LEDs light up on the slightest touch. The LEDs also switch off automatically after a few seconds. Brightness of the LED can be adjusted too. They need a little getting used to, coz finding the right point can be tricky at the start. The exterior panel is glossy with ToC(Touch of Color) finish as can be seen in the images.

Here is how the monitor looks in real with HD Wallpapers. It is great to say the least, especially at the given price point. Color reproduction is pretty accurate and the viewing angles are not too bad either. The vertical viewing angles aren't all that great just like the other monitors in the same price range. HD content is a treat to watch. Plain text is also very crisp and causes no strain on the eye.
Let the pics do the talking!

And recorded a small video of the GI Joe Trailer. Recording quality of the Canon S5IS is very mediocre, but u can still see how crisp and vibrant the video looks. (Please try and view the HQ version).

[BREAK=Final Verdict]

If you're on a tight budget and cannot afford an IPS panel monitor, you're next best bet would be the Samsung Lavender series monitor. The total price I paid for it was Rs. 11,900 inclusive of tax in Bangalore.

PROS:
1) Very high Dynamic Contrast.
2) Fast 2ms response time is great for gaming and fast moving images to avoid ghosting.
3) Can differentiate between all degrees of blacks. Not so with the degrees of white. Have to turn down contrast and it gets better!
4) More features compared to any other monitor at the same price range.
5) Amber color blended into Samsung’s piano black bezel frame gives it a classy look. (Just like their HDTVs )

CONS:
1) Slight backlight bleed on the top and bottom edges.
2) Magic Color has a variable result, making certain videos look good and the other not so good :P
3) No DVI Cable Included.
4) Lacking HDMI Input.
I would certainly recommend anyone to buy this monitor as it adds class n quality to your desktop without much compromise in performance! As far as the After Sales Service is concerned, Samsung is great without doubt. From what I could comprehend after reviewing all the monitors, the Samsung Lavender Series would beat the 2233SW, Dell 2209W and the BenQ variants with ease.
P.S: Pictures taken with a Canon S5IS

Just got mine. Woohoo.

Too huge. Upgraded from 17" CRT to 24" LCD

Have pics but since most are same I won't post until asked >.>

Con: I hated the way they have arranged the ports. The wires have to bend a little. A small con for an awesome monitor.

Spec mentions that it has composite video.
So does that mean I Can connect normal DVD player/ dth composite video output to this monitor using RCA cable?

it surely looks like it. a big plus. can anyone confirm?

@sathyanaidu - 1) Is this monitor screen (not the bezel) glossy? (sorry, i couldn't see from the picture)
2) Can you post a picture of just a BLACK screen (in a dark environment) - so as to check the backlight bleed of the monitor.
3) You've mentioned, this monitor is better than 2233sw - have you seen the 2233sw or you are saying it just by seein pics?

Every wise old geeks are recommending 2233sw and if you are saying that P2350 is better than that, then I guess P2350 is a winner of TN panels . . .

Well I've seen both panels side by side and the P2350 is not all that great compared to the 2233SW, although it has a lot less backlight bleed...just saying.

I have been quoted 11300 for p2250 and 12800 for p2350 in delhi while people have bought it for much less. can somebody from delhi confirm this

Hi Friends

I am planning career in 3d VFX, After about 2 years using 19" LCD I am planning to shift to 24" and the options with prices are below with my sole reviews, please comment and let me know the best to opt.

Choice 1 : BENQ 24"
G Series : G2412HD
Price : 11,300
Pros:

Input Signals : D-sub / DVI-D/ HDM1.3I / Audio in / Headphone Jack
Resolution :1920x1080
esponse Time :5ms / 2ms(GTG)
Display Area :531.36x298.89 (mm)
Viewing Angle :170/160 (L/R;U/D) (CR>=10)
Features : Senseye+Photo, AMA, HDCP Support, Vista Premium.
Adjustments (UP/DOWN) Tilt -5/20 (down/up)
Looks : Elegant
Cons: No DisplayPort (New Display Standard by VESA)

Note Avoided other 24" Benq, ASUS, AOC, LG, VIEWSONIC as I find them not suitable for Price&Perf Comp, only diff being speakers and builtin Cam.

Choice 2: Samsung p2350/ 2233SW/SWPlus
Technically I did not find much diff btw P2350 and the other two apart from minute display dimension and the Versatile look of P2350.

My Choise as of now BENQ G2412HD
Reason :
  1. Good Price to Perf / Value for Money
  2. Increased Size in Image dimension compared to P2350
  3. Good Amount of Inputs Required compared to Samsung
  4. More over it looks more a professional display unit than a conventional LCD TV. I do not mean to hurt anyones feelings, I personally own two LCDs from Panasonic(32) and Sony (42).

But I strongly need advice from you ..... Shall I wait for some more time say 2 more months as all these models are less than 100MHZ displays and do not have the current DigitalPort an advancement to HDMI that we see in most upcoming Graphic Cards. I already have this port on the current Nvidia Quadro FX card that I purchased for my build and hence am confused to wait or opt for BENQ.

Even Though I have LCD TV's I cannot use them for 3D Apps as the performance and refresh rate of Conventional LCD TV's are different from LCD Monitors.
