In the June issue of CHIP they have reviewed a Samsung 7200RPM 16mb buffer 320GB HDD for 4.4k - look at the speeds of this drive !! :O

Single File read 90.9 mb/s
Multiple Files read 76.9 mb/s
Single file write 83.3 mb/s
Multiple files write 71.4 mb/s

these figures are better than a WD Raptor 74 GB HDD !! :O

Are Samsung drives quality good ? how is their RMA service. I have NEVER used a Samsung HDD.

i have had 2 samsung SATA HDDs replaced in the last 2-3 years...it took abt 2 weeks to abt a month to get them replaced...after that i haven't had any more samsung hdds!!...

^^ i know of friends having the same experience...somehow at the end of the warranty period the hdd's go kaput as if there is a bomb inside......i would stay away from em.

Easy, if you start asking questions about hard drives, then who we supposed to turn to? :P

If anyone asks me I would not recommend a Samsung HDD over any other brand  ..... but this HDDs speeds are amazing .... I dont think I will buy this HDD as I dont have confidence in Samsung HDDs ... but this HDDs speeds are amazing ..... and the posts of netbakwas and hanzy confirms my bad feelings about Samsing HDDs... but... did I mention.... this HDDs speeds are amazing

I hope it is not a case of run fast and die fast :ohyeah:

These tests in the link really make the Samsung look ornery :S What is CHIP upto :@ Incorrect reviews from these magazines really makes it difficult for us to make the right choice. :@

@rajshah ... you can buy a Seagate or Hitachi or WD whichever one you feel comfortable with as a brand. I dont think there is much to differentiate between these brands. I personally prefer Hitachi - but they dont have a good after sales service in India. I have not used WD so I cannot say how good they are but they do have a strong following - people who use WD swear by them ..... but I think in India Seagate probably outsells all the other brands put together.

me wondering : did samsung offer 'free' harddrive change to all the systems at CHIP

Well when all their Samsung HDDs die after 2 months it serves CHIP RIGHT !!! :ohyeah:

Sure i will :hap2:

I've have two 40GB samsung HDDs. One that's seven years old and old that I bought last year. They are very quiet(much quieter than Seagate) and the new one is a good performer. Of course, lower capacity HDDs are known to be faster than higher capacity ones and run quieter. The thing I noticed with the newer Samsung drive is that it runs very hot. That was my only problem.

Samsun drives are not like their other products IMO. They are worth checking out if they can sustain those speeds but good luck finding a hi capacity samsung drive. I can't seem to find any in B'lore. But I think you have better contacts and maybe you can find one. :)

Rofl, chip are the biggest retarded l0sers I've seen in my life.

They claimed the 7600GT outperforms the 8600GTS
