Just got hold of my Sapphire 4870.
Seem to be overclocking very well just tried 850/1100 and it works great no artifacts nothing only fan speed increased thanks to Udit.

It will go higher but waiting for some more stuff to get here and then plan a big show-off.




 
Well nice clocks there... But do you really need that much speed for games... Specially on 1650 res... I have tried the card on stock in some of the games and it just creams everything...
 
Have you tried the 8.7beta? It performs much better than the 8.7 official.

I am sure you will be able to crack 17k with that driver because I am getting better results than yours with dual core.



Give it a try. Its overall faster in every game test as well.

4870 does badly in 3Dmark06. It really shines in vantage and games.

I am guessing you have used AMD GPU clock tool. It probably wont give you anything benchable above 850Mhz core. Then CCC fan profile stops workign for me here for anything higher than 850Mhz core.

You either have to install 3rd party cooler or you will have to modify the bios with RBE and flash the modified bios to the card.

have seen the 4870 do 900MHz+ with a zalman HSF and some artic MX2 ....at these speeds 4870 beats the 280GTX is almost all games...so all the best farooq.
