For the past 5-10 Days, I was very much glued to the Sapphire HD4870 1GB version ($240) for ordering through KMD in Jan09. But then, Newegg removed the Free Shipping on it :@ . I presume i'll hafta pay something like $20 Extra for local shipping in US. So, searched around for GTX 260 if it cud fit in my budget ($250) & with free shipping. So, found the EVGA one.

Help me in selecting between these 2 Video Cards!

Sapphire HD4870 1GB or EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 896MB?

& EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 896MB

And driver issues with 4870? Big Bang Drivers doin good over 4870? Lotsa Questions. Sorry for tht!

In both of the cards, I would surely go for Core 216 as the perf is near to 280.

Besides, if you want to save quite some, go for the 4870 512mb for $185.

I mak has posted the link with the coupon code to reduce $15 somewhere.

Buy nothing at the moment. Sit tight till next month and let the 55nm parts roll out in market in masses, then buy 55nm GTX 260. You might even get some stunning deals on GTX 280 in Jan as well ;)

+1 to that
the best offers are generally around when sumthin new/competetive is released in the gpu arena.

I;d suggest you wait a bit the GTX 260 216 may fall as the new 55nm ones have been introduced into the market. Otherwise if you can I d say go green get the GTX 260.

Many Thanks. Will wait.

However, just to fine-tune my Rig in terms of budgetary Allocations, how much would a HD4870 ($240 on NewEgg) or a EVGA GTX 260 ($247 on NG) would cost in INR if i get it thru kmd?? Would not like to trouble KMD just for the sake of prices.

Just to get an idea....

^^ multiply dollar price by 64 to get figure in INR + local shipping extra

Please note : These are not official formula by KMD....just what i've figured out after purchasing / obtaining prices from him for many items

^ not really, depends on item price. eg. Price x 48 x 1.4 for $45 or less (ie 67~), Price x 48 x 1.35 for 46$-185$ (64~), Price x 48 x 1.3 for 186$-300$ (62.5~), Price x 48 x 1.25 for 301$ and above (60~). and then weight plays role.

Above is what I observed.

Yay! 15k! Just where i had the line drawn. :D

Now unless weight of these cards (2kg or 4kg :P ) plays spoil sport, I should be able to get them in Jan/Feb. :hap2:

Then will bump this up for a Comparison.

Will be waiting for 2 more weeks max.

Now what, GTX 260 55nm or 65nm? 55nm Reviews on Egg aren't that great. I guess the shrinked Cooling Solution lowered the Mfd costs, but increased the temps.

Also, the techgage follow-up article didn't take HD playback or OC potential in consideration! :@
