Just for reference - the shipping was initiated by @drtgns at his end from Delhivery. It was marginally cheaper at some ~1300 ish vs ~ 1700 from DTDC. This amount was including insurance at 2% - around 160-ish INR

True. It's based on volumetric dimension and not just the weight of the item. Private couriers do this for end consumers. This is why I use Speedpost for non-fragile items as Speedpost measure only the weight.
