I just broke my HDD's SATA DATA Cable support that has left the wire hanging in air. The HDD was showing a corrupt file error and after I repaired XP it worked but now it is showing Blue Screen Error or restarts automatically after showing XP LOADING.... Screen.

The black part supporting the seven golden SATA wires has come off and the seven connector wires are left hanging in air. I am not able to adjust and fix it in the sata cable(damn those straight SATA cable).

Is it possible to solder the SEVEN SATA wires with a stripped sata cable. I've asked from Kharghar to Panvel and no one knows how to solder such a connection.
If you know somebody who can solder it please share the info. :ashamed:
Here are some screenies :

Is there some other solution which can protect my data and make the HDD work ?

HELP>>> I have some really sensitive data on it.

@aman: Don't panick. There is a not so simple solution to this and it did work for me.

A few weeks back i was in the same predicament. I did the following and it worked.

1. Take a old dead sata hdd.
2. take it to the old electronics repair wallah who typically do the cd/dvd player local amps n kinda stuff.
3. Ask him to de-solder the entire plastic header of the old disk and solder it on the one you have broken.

This needs a lot of careful desoldering and soldering but it works like a charm if done correctly.

For backing up your data for the time being stick the brocken part with feviquick and attach the sata cable. backup the stuff and then go for the suggested trick.

I did ask a lot of soldering wallas all they said was that it couldn't be done ??. I've told prime and they said that they can replace the HDD but wont be able to repair it. So s there any other guy who can do it ?

yeah1 ofmy my friend did the same thing when he got into this ,

Just get someone to lend you a drive from the same series. The board has a few screws, and they are interchangeable among drives of the same capacity and series. After you copy the data off the drive, exchange the boards back.

If your data is really that sensitive, just buy a new drive for exactly this purpose, and RMA the defective drive. It'd be good to have a backup, as you can probably see.

If the electrical connections are fine, a drop of Superglue will work to fix the plastic piece back. The pics aren't clear enough for me to tell. I've done that before and the drive has worked fine - it's still working fine, actually. The support structure takes no load unless you are violent with it.

Used superglue to stick it back on but after two days it again got Kaput and since then its showing problem. I guess some glue got stuck to the pins:S. I was searching Lammy for a SATA HDD connector but couldn't find even a single SATA Hdd with any roadside vendor. So I found a shop who can solder with precision Its in the lane that starts from our Favourite Dosa-Wada wala stall:) .

Yup, as long as you don't tell. And if your vendor doesn't stick a big fat sticker over one of the screws. The drive manufacturer technically voids the warranty.

@aman - once you have any problem with a drive, back it up first. Maybe you'll learn that next time.

Anyway, it's not a tough job, I'm surprised no one could do it so far. The SATA connector can be totally removed and hardwired no problem. But the drive will never be able to be sent for warranty repairs after that. As long as you have found the solution, it's all cool.

I had a similar "accident" and had broken the plastic part of the SATA data connector on a Hitachi 250GB HDD, what I did was use a Hot Glue Gun and had the cable itself stuck on to the HDD - I ran it this way for a while with NO PROBLEMS until Hitachi agreed to replace it.

Now m happy that my maxtor is again on tracks just when i literally lost hopes n ws abt to throw it. He did charged me Rs.450/- bt thats nothing for a hdd so large n yet contaning that precious data.
