My trusty 4.5 year old Sony DVD Writer (DRU-710) has decided to stop reading/writing discs properly, So I am in need of a new DVD Writer. Would like to get a SATA Writer. I am out of touch of the DVD Writer market and dont know whats good these days. SO, what are the good options for SATA DVD Writers.

Amarbir seems to have Sony and Samsung though Samsung seems to be selling at a much lower price. Should I go sony again or is samsung also good.

Samsung 20x SATA SH-203B is pretty good...

I am plannin to get a good one too....
By the way wht is dif between B and D and which is better??

buy Samsung SH-S223F as according to Funky (who uses it) it is much better than Samsung SH-S203B/D

sh-s223........good drive...brought it today...cost me 1125...inclusive of tx..mayb...shud have bargained better....try and bargain...u may get it for 1100

Reliability may be an issue with SS optical drives. We use DVD burners to create master DVDs for our magazine. Prefer Plextor, failing that LG, Sony, BenQ

chances are, the sony available is the 190/191 series which are liteon 20A3 series. I say buy whichever is cheaper, but the sonly /Liteon look very cheaply built. the finish of the plastic is worse than that on many roadside plastic toys  having said that , performance is quite good :)

The one available is Sony DRU-845S

DRU-845S - Lynx-Chandigarh Largest Electronic & Computer Superstore

Which has been rated decently on par with the Samsung SH-203.

My friend got a Sony the other day as he preferred it over Samsung, and later found out the Sony was a re badged Samsung! Don't remember if it was the same model as posted by Greenhorn.
