Well my newest sata hdd is making some clicking sounds...they are not very loud...i just happened to hear the sound when i went close to the cabinet(one side is open for cooling :D)...

So far there have been no actual problems with the hdd and i am running the OS from it....

SMART monitoring shows

Also is the diff between "value is normal" and "always passing"?

Thanks guys!

I guess i was worried for no reason....the sound is just the hdd accessing data....

It aint that loud....really have to put my ear to it and concentrate to hear it...

I have a Hitachi 80GB drive that makes a soft clicking sound when it accesses data - it has done this for over a year - no bad sectors or any other problem with this drive yet.

^^ Well this sound reminds of one of the first hdd's i had a segate 630mb :D :D ....it used to so loud while accesing data!
Well some1 please answer this!
With reference to SMART monitoring wat is the diff between "value is normal" and "always passing"?

From the readings i can make out only one thing :

Always Passing : When there is no Threshold value(0).(Nothing to gauge against - the difference between Value & Worst can vary freely)

Value is normal : So in this case Threshold > 0. The difference between value & worst has to remain under a specified threashold.(It has to remain in a range & is compared to check if its passing or not).

PS : This is what i can make out & in no way suggests what it actually might stand for - just my view point.
