Hi!
I am looking towards buying either a samsung 940BW or a viewsonic 2025wxm. However i'm not sure how do these monitors perform in scaling. I'll be getting 7900 gs (which most probably supports scaling). So if any of you guys have already bought any of these monitors, could you tell me their performance in lower res like 1280X1024 or 1024X768 (or their widescr equiv res)...
This is because, i think with newer games on the horizon like crysis, cellfactor, i don't think even with 7900gs (or gt) i can get decent fps at native resolutions of these monitors...so unless these monitors don't show up any garbled mess or pixellations at lower (and more playable res), it doesn't make sense to buy these monitors...
And yes, my main use will be gaming and movies.
So please let me know abt your scaling experiences in these monitors.
Thx

Get VX2025WM, Samsung 940BW is not even in the same league.

Yes, you may need better Video Card as well, considering future games.

If you can afford then Dell 2007WFP. Scaling is quite good on this monitor and you do not even need to have that feature in the graphics card. This display has OSD options to either stretch the image to full screen or even display the image at the appropriate resolution with out scaling it (by using only the required number of pixels). You also get the additional features like Video-In, USB Hub, Full flexibility of positioning etc not found in the 2025WM. If you want something cheaper, then the Viewsonic 2025WM. The 19" do not seem to have good scaling and the fact is that they cannot even display 1280 x 1024 resolution as they do not have enough pixel height wise (native res is only 1440 x 900)

Get the vx2025wm without doubt....no contest

Going down from 1208x1024 to 1024x768 is not that noticible on my 740N, however anything below that , the difference is very noticable.

Edit : Get the Dell 2007WFP if u can afford it

Was looking at the Dell 2007WFP myself, but I'm just wondering, guys, widescreen any good for gaming? (Sorry@rPOK, for butting in but did'nt want to start a new thread)

the future of gaming is widescreen. newer games like cs:source, Wow all support widescreen resolutions.

u can also visit http://www.widescreengamingforum.com which is dedicated to widescreen gaming.for games where developers don't provide widescreen solutions, they have a seperate section devoted to getting that game to work in widescreen.
the master games list ishere

Well i don't know much abt LCD monitors but i checked the specification of the mentioned LCD monitors. Samsung 940BW has 4ms response time and HDCP support whereas Viewsonic VX2025WM has a response time of 8ms and it does not have HDCP support. So keep these points into mind before finalizing ur choice.

i seriously dont know how these companies calculate ms etc. cause i have played on a samsung 2ms 19" screen & i found it to be exactly the same as my 8ms viewsonic vx2025.

Samsung response times like 5ms or 4ms for thier panels even with overdrive are all overrated as tested by many reviewers. So we cannot say anything by those response times alone. Also the 940BW is a 16.2m color 6 bit TN Panel while the Viewsonic 2025WM is a P-MVA Panel with 16.7m color support.

So finally

Dell 2007WFP - Feature Rich, Flexible, 16ms typical, 8ms Gray-Gray response S-IPS Panel. Best color Reproduction, Bit costly due to the features. - 27.7k

Viewsonic 2025WM - Not so feature rich, 8ms Gray-Gray, 16ms typical response, P-MVA Panel. Value for money. - 20k

Viewsonic VA1912 - 8 Bit TN Bit Panel with 8ms Gray - Gray response. typical response should be more like 12~16 ms. Full 16.7m color support. - 15k

Samsung 940BW - 6 Bit TN Panel with 4 ms Gray-Gray. Rated response time is questionable. only 16.2m Color Support -15k

If you want a feature rich Panel and can spend, then Dell 2007WFP. If you do not want all those features or do not want to spend that muh, but looking for a good 20" Panel for gaming and movies, then Viewsonic 2025WM. If you are on a budget and ok with a 19" then either a Viewsonic VA1912 or Samsung 940BW
I strongly recommend that you go for a 20" LCD rather than 19". An LCD is not something you change frequently. so make the best out of your money. For around 20k The viewsonic 2025WM is a very good deal. However, I will myself vouch for the Dell 2007WFP as I am using it (Mostly for gaming). The Dell2007WFP + Radeon X1900XT is gaming heaven for me now :)

Nice mistake :D

^VA1912 is also 6-bit panel

NFSMW does not support resolution of 1680x1050 that my vx2025 has. But playing it on 1280x960 does not look bad at all. I play it stretched to fit the screen and it looks good.

So from first hand experience i call say its not as bad as people say it is to play games on non native resolutions with stretching. Also played CSS at lower than 1680x1050 resolutions and it does not look too bad to be honest.

i have a dell 2007 myself and trust me its worth every penny if u can afford it

@ hunt3r wherz that modded file, i wanna play at that res too

This is the res hack program in NFS MW.Plz choose the version properly. I guess most of u will have 1.3 patch only.Worked for me with the VA1912w.

Reps welcome:-)
