There is no real reason I use Hitachi HDDs .... just have a feeling about these HDDs being good. I now have 8 Hitachi HDDs with not a single hiccup from any of them. My oldest Hitachi is a 80GB which I bought 3 years back.x86 said:Guys I'm in a topsy-turvy land which HDD to buy.
Eazy whats the full specs of the hitachi one with any special things to look for, and how many plates it has?
1> Shud 5 mbps more speed of the 7200.10 series really matter in games or say when the HDD is full?
2> Which will perform better when full or say near full?
3> really which one shud i gamble one?
The Hitachi T7K500 320GB HDDs features are more or less identical to the Seagate 7200.10 320GB HDDs.... they are both 2 platter HDDs .... except for the perpendicular recording feature of Seagate. In the Storagereview forums the Gurus there mention that the Hitachi HDDs "firmware" is much better than the Seagates and they mention this as a major plus point in the HItachi HDDs favour. I dont know what this firmware betterness means and how it influences the working of the HDD. Maybe someone here can throw some light on this.
About your question of how well the HDDs will work when nearly full I would suggest you check the charts in the HDTach thread and observe the speeds near the ending. I have put up a screenie for the HDTach on the HItachi and I thing Apo and Chaos and others have put for the Seagates.
