Forerunner
I am looking for Seagate 7200.12 1TB HDD (Model ST31000528AS).. All I can find is older 7200.11 (Model ST31000333AS)... Even though its older but not a single review of this HDD on the net...

Can someone confirm if the latest 7200.12 1TB has come back in stock or not. It was launched some 4 months ago but not available here...

Yeah same here..... I was supposed to buy it 1 1/2 months back, searched like crazy for it, but I was able to get 7200.12 only in 500 GB so I have to settle for 7200.11, though other option was WD caviar Green (EADS) but I preferrred Seagate!!!

Hailstone the older 7200.11 model ST31000333AS is somewhat uncommon.
Its a 3 Platter drive. I bought the same a few months ago. Its runs awsome.

check it out here - http://www.techenclave.com/storage-solutions/seagate-1tb-7200-11-st31000333as-5350-a-128483.html

Go for it

Does it heat up... I've few 7200.11 500GB (No firmware issue)... using them on my Vantec HDD dock & they heat up quite a lot... While in reviews Seagate's new 7200.12 1TB was really cool & quite too...

Seagate has again moved back to 5 years warranty & 500GB/ platter gives some edge to it.. though access times are pathetic on them...

My ST31000333AS runs at about 38-43*C Range. If you can't find 7200.12 then go for 7200.11 na.

Dont worry ur hdd wont melt

It won't melt but I am scared the dock could with its flimsy plastics... 7200.12 is tested... So preferred... By the way the model you have performs only slightly lower but better than Caviar Black...

@hunt3r... Yepp mate I too confirmed this, its now available...

I just bought 6 of them last week. In fact he didn't even have anything else. He had only the 528AS drives.

The 7200.11 drives have a firmware bug which causes them to randomly brick. They just disappear from BIOS and won't detect again.

^^The link dosent specify the model no tho, i just called him up and check and he confirmed that its 7200.12 . Whats the model no of the drives Torch? Are there many versions of the 1 TB 7200.12 . I think theres only one model with 32 MB cache right?

7200.12 is the generation of the drive technology. You get 7200.12 drives in various capacities. ST31000528AS is the only 1TB 7200.12 drive. Even the older 7200.11 drives had 32MB cache.
