Can Someone Post The Performance difference Between The Two Along with Screen Shots .I Do Have The 640 AAKS For Benchmarking But Got Only Few 7200.12 that Are sold Off .

hoping that the 7200.12 does not perform badly here... got it day before yesterday for 2900... seems that it has a 16mb buffer after reading stories about the failure of various 7200.11

Which drive is better? I need to buy TWO Drives.

I was thinking to buy One of seagate 7200.12 - ST3500410AS - 500 GB

And the second one: WD 640 GB - WD6400AAKS

What do you guys say?

I need to put one into my PC as my main drive and the another one into my External USB Transcend StoreJet 6.5 SATA Casing.

Will the WD be better for the casing? - Heat and all I mean or do both drives have same heat.

OK I ordered. Two Seagate 500 GB 7200.12 - ST3500418AS for Rs. 3050/- a piece. He says this model has 16 MB Buffer and another one which has 32 MB Buffer is for Rs. 3300/-. I asked him the model no and he says he can't tell me as his Distri will not entertain him on phone.

As per Seagate there is no Seagate 500 GB 7200.12 drive which has 32 MB Buffer. I smelt something fishy so ordered the 16 MB Buffer ones.

Anyone can confirm if indeed there are 2 versions with different buffer sizes? Seagate has 2 - 500 GB models but, the difference is only in the noise levels.

I had given my 500 GB Seagate ST3500320AS for RMA a few days back. I checked the status online today and it seems that I'm getting a 750 GB 7200.12 ST3750528AS in exchange. This one does have a 32 MB cache.. or so it says on the site. Me happy! :D

both 410AS and 418AS have 16mb cache .

i got a 418AS but it is detected as 410AS only by hdtune and hdtach and shows 16mb buffer :S

getting 2 more for RAID 0 soon :D

here is a screenie of the hdtach spee tests .very fast burst speed :D

Good for you. Getting a 750GB in place of 500 GB.
