hello i know THIS THREAD is an old thread, but i have just managed to find this site after a long search on trying to get data off a drive that went down on me.

i had an external drive & it was working fine, then on XMAS eve i went to transfer something over on to it & noticed something odd, it said all folders were empty & i thought s**t thats not right, so restarted comp & when comp booted back up, the external drive was not even showing in "my computer" so after some searching around comp i found the drive in "disk management" but it was showing it as not initialized, so i tried to initialize it & i got an error about I/O by this time i was :@:@ as i have data on there that i really need, so i have been searching & searching for a fix for this drive, i have also tried to get another drive the same to get PCB (logic board) from it & so far i have not been able to get one....

i really need help with this & if anyone could help me, could you please give me full instructions on how to fix without board or will i need to get another board???

i have tried countless programs to retrieve data, but none of them can locate the drive, i have been told the BIOS in the drive is lost, but i have no clue on how to get BIOS back on...

Im at my wits end & any help is much appreciated

Details of my drive are:-
Barracuda 7200.11
500 Gbytes

S/N: 9QM0Y7VK
ST3500820AS
P/N: 9BX134-568
Firmware: SD35

EDIT: forgot to say, the drive can now be external or internal as i have removed it from the external case
