I am planning to buy a 500 giger this weekend, have read a lot of reviews on TE and it seems that WD Mybook is the preferred choice, but somehow ive been asking around and it seems the seagate Free agent has a less failure rate and better after sale service here ..would be helpful if anyone cud clarify on which is the better drive to go for

PPl already owning the WD's or Seagate's plz put in ur inputs :)

[threadjack]I'm in a similar conundrum. FreeAgent or MyBook or 640GB WD + Cooler Master casing?[/threadjack]

gO for WD...My Book..:cool2: am usin My Book Essential Edition 500GB...like from 6 months...no isues as of now...its on 24/7......:hap2:

The WD MyBook 500GB is for 4.5k and the Maxtor 500gb is for 4.2k at Lamington...Computer Gallery or some such shop. My friend bought the Maxtor last week!

I have been using wd 500 gig external for quite some time, it's definitely better than getting a ide/sata drive and putting it in usb case . WD/seagate doesn't matter much in case of performance since usb is bottleneck in these drives . I prefer WD anyday ( on site warranty ) . No experience with maxtor one's yet .
