I went to accel Frontline today to submit my ST3500320AS...
i asked if there is data recovery offered...i also told that i read so on seagates site...
the person on desk replied 'We dont offer data recovery' (as in doesn't matter what seagate is offering)

drive was checked and was accepted..

i received sms from accel frontline about the update of registering product...
in less than 5mins i again received the an sms..

"Greeting from Accel. Your unit s.no xxxxxxxx is rejected as it is NVD DRIVE, please collect it."

i tried calling them but it was almost 6pm thus they must have closed..

dont know what NVD Drive means but now that i checked on accel's site.. it says "Ready for Return - Initial Wty Check Failed"

i checked the warranty status on seagate's site yesterday and it was showing warranty till 2013 yesterday but today it's showing 'unknown'.

i'm also aware of the fact that accel frontline never accepts the material without checking the warranty.

tomorrow the service center would be closed.. and then saturday sunday it is closed anyways... what shall i do? i posses the original copy of the purchase bill.

and if the drive was rejected for physical damage.. (there was none) then it should have been rejected at the counter itself...they do check foe any damage.

kinda confused about what to do now...!!??

^ Same happened with me too. One of my friend gave my Seagate ST3500320AS to them along with his HDD, which they checked and accepted. Same I checked with Seagate site which shows warranty till 2013.

After day or two, I checked its staus which was showing "Ready for Return - Initial Wty Check Failed". When he went back to collect his HDD, I handed over bill with him to again try for RMA, which they simply rejected and said Seagate will honor warranty to your drive. :@

I would not buy any Seagate product from now.

^ you mean "Seagate will NOT honor warranty !!" OR "Seagate will honor warranty (but we won't) !!" ??

^ I am gonna rip my dealer's ass first though you can request for RMA thru Seagate website(but they ask to ship to Accel Frontline, chennai address).

I may be wrong but I have an inkling that these are rejected coz they were imported from some other country ie they are grey market..so when you check it on Seagate website site it says warranty available.

but when Accel checks it, it doesn't verify the sold in India serial number.

i had checked the warranty on seagate with detail as

Model Number:

Serial Number:

Country: India

if it was sold in other country with that serial number then warranty status shouldn't show up in the 1st place... which was not the case untill yesterday...

forget that... they don't even accept the drive at accelfrontline if their warranty check fails. they can not claim No warranty after accepting the drive at desk..would have been different if it was sent in mail or something.

only conspiracy theory i can think of is 'stolen/missing drives' :P

EDITED:

LoL looks like seagate warranty check is broken..

i just rechecked the status with Part number instead of model number now and it shows warranty for india....Strangely it used to work with model number before..

I think Seagate does have International warranty. plus, if drive was not in warranty. ACCEL won't have accepted it for RMA in first place.

Best is to contact your RMA center and ask them the reason behind rejection;)

^ Seagate does not honor international warranty any more and all these drive being rejected on the grounds of invalid warranty are supposedly not official imports according to Seagate. :)

Best would be to get it done via your dealer/shop you got it from.

+1
And also if possible show them the warranty status of the drive on seagate website (like a printout of the webpage). They should accept or else they are waiting for people to complain against them so they lose the RMA centre status as in sony ericsson.
Might be tiring for them with so many seagate failures.:P

Here is mine

can't contact rma center until monday since it will be closed till then.

will talk to the dealer till then...

the issue has taken an unusual twist.

hopefully accel frontline was open yesterday (saturday) for seagate and transcend..

i asked them what exactly 'NVD Drive' status means??!!

they replied it means that my drive is out of warranty..

they asked me to call seagate toll free...which upon calling clearly stated that my drive is under warranty..

now accel wants a proof, in terms of an email exchange ..verbal proof wont do, also they were hesitant to check the warranty again for my sake... although there were only 2 customers at service center at the moment.

hence i accessed seagate site and showed them the warranty via cell gprs... they are still resistant to provide warranty..

i even explained that the drives carry 5yrs warranty and this specific model was not even into existence before 2yrs...well now they are a bit confused,..but still hesitant to recheck my drive warranty.

i took my drive after having wasted so much time.

dealer has agreed to accept the drive and replace it, he also let me discuss the issue with seagate distributor..who again validated my drive as purchased in india and under warranty.

dealer has suggested me to file a complaint in consumer court against accel frontline. he said it only costs 100 bucks and i'm willing to do that..anyone will to explain how to go about it?

well, a little twist in the case...

the drive that is bought was an 'OEM' drive..
the dealer called me and said so..
how can OEM products be available in retail packaging ??!!

it was written in small letter on the drive..never ever noticed before..
so beware whenever you purchase hdds.

my drive is still hanging with the dealer and im not sure if i'm gonna get a replacement by conventional means.

i'm seriously pissed off at myself for not checking the drive during purchase :@

So your dealer's at fault and partly you for not having seen the OEM part mentioned in the drive!? :P

Insist the dealer to give you a replacement. He cannot sell you OEM drives unless it had to come with the PC. Meanwhile shoot a mail to Seagate customer support indicating the issue and that you as an end-user was not aware of this.
