Retail HDD's come in different packaging with proper cardboard box. Seagate stopped selling these in Indian market few years back citing higher prices & hence lower sales.... Since then its only bulk drives from distributors which are available in India...

Getting Samsung to sell their hard drives won't do much good now. It has been taken over by Seagate!

But F3's are much better. THey run cooler and quiter similar performance.

Anyways, lets see what prime has to say to me about this. And had given a HDD for RMA, have to check the status of that too.

If they are reducing warranty period, they are doing it on purpose considering quality of product their these days.

Last week I received 4th RMAed 500HDD from them from a single purchase. Every RMAed HDD conked off after 6-8 months.

No1 in prime had any idea on this. Ashok called the distri who confirmed the decrease in warranty, seems like the changes have happened in the last week of July.

What is it about the reliability of a drive that has been reducing? Why do consumers have to pay for bigger capacity with less warranty where implication of data loss may be substantial? Why not provide different warranty products like the externals?

Does Seagate intend to sell SAS drives to corporate customers with the same piss-poor warranty...I guess not.

^. They are trying to improve profits by reducing cost of RMA. Now someone has to suffer & in most cases its the consumer/end user who has to take it in the a#$s...

That's a universal rule my friend... Nothing can be done except to boycott the product & look for alternatives...

Definitely no, they wont do it. Would say only this, its the consumers who take the shit. Well, seems like another INC.

WD will follow this for sure:(...IMO atleast 3 year warranty is a must for HDDs

Of the 5 HDDs that i used in the past 5 years(3 seagate and 2 WD), 4 of em failed within 3 years....

guys
its very simple,
gobble up competition with all your dollars,
seaget gobbled up samsung.
western digital gobbled up hitachi
now only toshiba fujitsu and samsung hdd wherever available are only small players remaining .

so basically Seaget did their bit and now it seems to be Wd turn to follow same.

to hell with quality control and data storage reliability.
I hate these anti competitive practices .

Posting here as didn't found any suitable thread and didn't want to start a new thread for small query.

I have submitted a 500 gb internal for rma on 3rd oct but seagate is not giving replacement till date. Accel site says blocked for allocation. CC says they are OOS. Accel Chennai landline no.s are not being answered since last week.

Guys, Can someone pl guide me whom to contact with contact no. to expediate replacement?

^ did you call'em on these numbers >>> 91-44-66873133/34/35 ?

Yes probably its take time for them to answer, had to try the numbers at random, my calls were answered only after 3 calls.

It will take at least 14 days, and more so some times if OOS. Speaking to Accel is useless as they do not pick up the phone most of the times. I got my replacement 2 days before, got a minor bump from the 9VT 301 to 302 with CC3C firmware! had given it on 22nd september for RMA.

This is bad. HDDs have become so unreliable that instead of improving manufacturing processes to make drives more reliable they take the easy way out by reducing warranty. And in this era of only 2 main manufacturers I am quite sure WD will also follow suit rather than stand by customers and maintain their 2 year warranty. :(

Yeah, true. But if WD reduces the warranty, then seagate will turn out to be preferrred, as they have lesser RMA issues upfront.
