What will be average monthly driving? If it's less than 1000KM, go for a petrol sedan instead. Lot's of option there and cheaper too.

Looks descent , but I heard they are coming out as taxis as well, is it? or the model has changed since then ?

-------/

Verito and etios are both taxis if that's what you are saying ....

Decent looks ;)

The Verito has just been refreshed with 23 new features which include cosmetic as well as ergonomic changes. And all good diesel cars around 8L mark in India do run as taxis whether its the Etios or Dzire or Verito or Manza.

If a car is being widely used as a taxi, the FE speaks for itself. The Ambassador, Indica, Premier Padmini, Verito erstwhile Logan, Corolla etc.

Tata went a step ahead and launched the Indicab which was essentially the stripped down version of the Indica.

Still confused...should I look into Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna? I heard Volkswagen's service is not good and its not properly organised in India. Verna also seems to have issues...
OMG!! this is not easy at all...
Sunny/Etios/Verna/Rapid/Vento

Would be taking one of these..

Since occupants would be 1-2 mostly, go for Dzire ZDi. Good ASS, engine, great FE, not so expensive parts, smooth gearshift though plastics feel hard compared to german cars.

absolutely!
i do get a feature laden hatch for 8 lakh.i do honestly put my money on the jazz or something like a premium hatchback.
my hatchback contendors would be :-
jazz
swift
polo

I have got Hyundai Verna SX Crdi this february and and so far so good . Verna is better VFM then vento . I know some people who got the vento just few months before verna was launched and now they are regretting . Cons of verna can be light steering , but i find it a boon in city driving . Ride can be a bit bumpy on potholes but otherwise everything else is fine . If you go for verna then do not get the 1.4crdi option , it is not VFM . The base model of 1.6Crdi is ~10lackhs , i know it is above your budget but is same as that of vento . Recently a friend from my office got The Renault Duster at around 10.5lackhs , i dont know which version but it looks good too . Forgot to mention that the waiting period of verna is huge ie . around 4-6 months , i got mine after waiting more then 4 months !

if u can increase ur budget verna is the car for you, A.s.s is not an issue plus hyundai's are known for low maintenance costs.
you'll love the car for the features it comes with and the awesome sixth gear it has.
you can get automatic too if you'll be wandering in city more than on highways.

BTW my Laura LnK is up for sale;)

I was also looking at Verna, can you tell me about its ground clearance and mileage? I heard mileage is pretty bad and Is the 1.6Crdi base model worth its price? @rohan_mhtr
( Not looking to buy a hatchback, will be going for a sedan)

For 40/50kms a day of City driving, I would highly recommend the Verna 1.6Crdi base model (Comes equipped with lots of goodies like rear parking camera, etc.) if you are hellbent to buy a sedan.
Should avoid Vento at all cost and the Rapide too if maintanence cost is a worry.
Again for 1-2 people of local commuting, a hatch is recommended. i20 Sportz option or i20 Asta ABS would be a pleasure to drive in city traffic as you won't have to worry about rear-side fender-benders. From inside it feels better spaced than a sedan. And the front seats of i20 are more comfy than Audi A4's rear seats. Not kidding.

At the end: A test drive of DZire, i20 and Verna is extremely recommended.

Guys im seriously not understanding the prices u guys r quoting..
Cruze for 12 lacs? seriously, where? Ill buy 2 on the spot..... it starts from 16.5 on road.

OP-best car in your budget is the dzire, period. Etios i wont comment cause in bombay Etios is literally called a TAXI since cab services are using it.

If You have a 10-11 lac budget, then ur other options start.

Verna - I own one(petrol), top of the line. in terms of internal spacing and features it beats the shit out of the rapid and vento. The suspension though not the best, i feel its pretty good for city drive. 150 + on the expressway the car makes me nervous. Still i feel its lacking in a few departments. Remember, HYUNDAI cars r really fun to drive.
And it clearly is the best looking car FTW.

Vento - ITS a TANK. solid build, gr8 drive quality but has a stiff suspension. According to me the best diesel engine in its class. But this car is a bit cramped. I wasnt comfortable in the drivers seat so opted for the city instead. Else there is nothing to see in this car. Its a no brainer.

Rapid - Same as vento, cheaper. Interiors r of a different color beige combo but exactly the same and so in terms of spacing, same problem. Though they have the same engine, both cars dont feel the same. Test drive and figure. I preferred rapid over vento. looks better too.

Fiat linea - cant comment much here cause i havent driven it much, but looks good and has a solid engine.

Ford Fiesta - its a BEAST. Dont like the way the new one looks though. Also i believe the new model is 11+.

Ertiga - underpowered, shaky ride quality even at low speeds.

SX4 - hmmm. Seriously think about this one. Marutis reliability, solid engine.
Like someone mentioned above, why not test drive the factory fitted sequential CNG model??

Honda City - buy it eyes closed if u decide on petrol.

At 8, i would get the DZIRE,
If u aint a tall fella and spacing is not an issue,at 11 the RAPID.
