Maybe not a public distinction, but being able to edit own posts, edit the thread titles, lesser wating times of say 15 seconds to search and post and 30 seconds to PM.

Also they need not revolt, make the system automatic, anyone with say 5000 posts AND 5000 Rep points gets these features. The mods can remove these features from the user if they misuse it.

Then I guess it would be Staff ZOne only :P

^ Well even I don't support those ideas, but the so-called Senior members could perhaps have a custom tag or private section (etc, etc, if you get my flow) as a tribute to their dedicated community service over the few years TE has been active.

Badge won't be right :bleh: But Yep a private section should be there :P

Thread subject/title change permission is also harmless. But editing power have caused problems in almost every big online forum in the past. And this includes some big names like AT and g3d. The fact that you are not aware of it does not mean it has never created issues there in the past. There was big flamewar on G3D in the days of FX5800 launch and this editing permission was abused very badly there as well.
Every forum faces this issue sometime if users are allowed to edit their posts.
And I know many are sensible enough, but its those few who can create problems others have to suffer as well for the good of community and to maintain some sort of discipline here.

Yup. Thats why it needs to be to a restricted section of the community. AT and G3D are good places, but they also attract a lot of idiots who mess up the place. Btw, have these places removed the editpost feature after that incident? I dont think AT has removed the feature. Doesnt it prove that its worthwhile, even though they have had problems in the past?

Can someone give me an example of where edit privileges would be useful? I really feel that I'm missing something here

Like I posted this thread about a beautiful story of a husband philandering and retracing his steps and didnt mention the source and had to wait till a mod helped me out...It actually looked like it was my story till then :ashamed:

@ Darkstar

5000 posts is too steep...

Nikhil, Chaos, Aditya and Anish...thats it...

Actually we dont need this that much....but it can just be like a prize for the members I guess...

I don't think any of our posts in general section are that crucial :P

Arre guys was just giving an example na, ofcourse 5000 is too steep, the breakoff point is for the mods to decide, IF they decide to go through with some form of this idea.

totally against this...

but its just my personal opinion... is there any "senior" member who prefer to have such privileges than others??? i guess they would be already knowing that there are so many silly things/threads/discussions over privileges which grow up to conflicts among members... is it really worth it to implement this new goodies for seniors alone?

See!! even with such a steep restriction the problem members have already started seeping in. One of those members retracts on his bickering more times than you can blink your eye.

If you lower it further there would be more offenders.

So it cant be auto. And if it is manual then there would be another thread about staff favoritism by members who cannot make it to the list but have thousands of posts and reps under their name. I have said earlier too, post count and reps dont signify that you are mature enough.

To have a separate section for senior members (whatever senior means) there should be some content to post about. Surely it cannot be done for torrent invites. Give me a handful of reasons/topics which would be better dealt in a closed room.

:S :S When I said that.:no:. It was said by Deepak and replied to his post :P And u are thinking its my idea

If this thing ever gets impelmented (Auto or manual, though Auto seems better, -> less bickering), I just want one thing....ok, make it two

3 letter searches, and 30 second search restriction removal

^^ Ive had to bother the mods atleast a dozen times to get my Dell deals 1st post edited. And I have felt the need to add some extra information that I wasnt able to find at the time of the post.

Raghu.

Hmm, thats a good point. This can be implemented for GOs. But seniority of a member has nothing to do with it :P
