Well,Sennheiser HD650 comes with a beautiful looking carton which makes it a really precious collection ,but Sound quality is what really matters when it comes to headphones like these .
Sennheiser HD650 is sold as audiophile headphones .They have an open dynamic headphone design. That means they will leak sound ,so not good for a noisy environment and keep in mind that others will be disturbed if volume is too high .

Specifications of these are :

  1. Technical Data
  2. Nominal impedance 300 Ohm
  3. Contact pressure ca. 2,5 N
  4. Weight w/o cable ca. 260g
  5. Jack plug 6,3/3,5 mm stereo
  6. Transducer principle (Headphones) open, dynamic
  7. Ear coupling circumaural
  8. Cable length 3 m
  9. Frequency response (headphones) 10-39500 Hz
  10. Sound pressure level (SPL) 103 dB (1 Vrms)
  11. THD, total harmonic distortion 0,05 %
What’s in the box:
  • ï¶ Headphones
  • ï¶ Detachable cable,
  • ï¶ Adapter
  • ï¶ An instructions manual

Construction:
Construction seems good, but it’s not made of metal only .half of it is made of Carbon fiber .According to Sennheiser that helps in lessening the vibrations and makes listening more pleasurable. Who knows? ..hhee
Sound quality

I have used them for around 400 hrs and just after 100 hr bass which was little muffled, got deep and articulate.
Well, These have laid back character with rolled off high, which makes them very pleasurable to listen music with them, as highs are not very harsh on ears.

Bass.I know many people are only concerned about bass and all and I must say they are not very bassy like my DT770 pro 80ohm ,but IMO HD650 are way ahead of DT770 pro 80ohm .Its mid bass is very deep and very well defined ,whereas bass of DT770 Pro 80ohm is very boomy and not defined at all .

Treble
:
Its treble is really good ,but its highs are little rolled of ,thats the reason they are very smooth sounding headphones and sometime people refer that these have laid back character .

Headphones tried with different Genre's like Classical (western eg Schubert ,Beethoven ) ,Indian Classical (eg Ravi shankar ),Rock linken Park ,Led zeppelin etc,POP,Trance (Ministry of Sounds ,Tiesto etc),Instrumental etc
Burn in
:120hrs

Headphones used with ESI-juli@->MHC-V515 as amp or D NE900 (line out )->MHC-V515

right now I'm looking for an amp and I might go for an tube amp .

Price (MSRP)$599

Price paid $450 :(

WeLL,I posted this review on few forums as well ,and I felt I should this way

Hey cool you have joined the club of Sennheiser HD650 users on TE.

Now with you in the club it brings us to a grand total of .......... 3 :)

These are amazing headphones though the price you paid is a little high. Where did you buy them from ? I got mine from Jaben for $412 when the $ was about 40 bucks.

Anyways screw what people say about these headphones - they sound lovely and none of them have heard these to appreciate the sound. :eek:hyeah:

I have some nice speakers at home but I have to sit in a single place to enjoy the sweet spot.

With these headphones I am not limited to sitting in one place and Sennheisers are known for being comfortable as well as sounding good and the HD650 are comfortable indeed. One can spend hours listening to them without fatigue thanks largely to the laid back sound and the comfortable fit.

Congrats again ! :hap2:

Oh and if you are looking for a tube amp, I believe the Darkvoice amps have a good synergy with these phones.

^^ First of all 450$ is robbery. You got pwned.
Yeah, I wonder who the third member of that club is umm?

Synergy with DV just fair - very good with DV 337. You should see how they do with Woo Audio amps - I've never heard them with the WA 6, but its supposed to be magical. Tubes + bassy cans = not a very good idea unless you like vinyl.

I'd go with a great SS amp. Google the Rudistor RX33 (I think) and the Beta 22 from AMB.

For me, I'm looking at building an M^3. One of the best 500$ amps in the world and does well with low and high impedance cans...

.
Well ,Getting it from outside India would have been tricky thing ,that why I decided against it and got it from here its self .Specially considering the size of its box .

anyway ,at current rate of dollor i.e U$1= RS 52 ,its about U$384.

Looks superb. I also wanted to buy but didn't have much money. So i got myself his little brother HD595. Right now pretty happy with it. Next headphone will be this for sure.

whoa!!
Actually the packing speaks for itself , what the price would be. :)
Can't actually rate the sound till used though.
PC166's are good, so these should be better I guess. :p

Its not the little brother. The sound is so different that they may as well be different planets. Anyways, don't even think of this unless you have a decent (read 300$ head-amp). You'll wonder what all the fuss is about if you go unamped.

Update :After 4 months of usage, now HD650 fits much better what it was 4months back and bass has gone on tighter side (deep and tight).

@amitjakhar :HD595 are considered as forward sounding headphones in whole of the HD Sennhesier series .They have a very different sound signature .
