Shifting to Bangalore!

I was in Bangalore few years back...For short stay..

1. Had dosa at a very humble place...costed 10Rs..Same would cost 12 in Hyd at a similar place.

2. Also found that people follow traffic rules much better than Hyd then... Hyd driving is atrocious...

3. Small time pubs in blore were very reasonable too...

Things may have changed now though...

Nice places to wander about... nice cheap hotels with cheap food (tea/coffee @7rs:S ),
wellbehaved autowallas add to charm of bangalore.:P
Very co-operative cops who always come forward to help ....

Beware of the Bangalore Auto walas , they often take northindians for a hike. Moreover you cannot even do anything about it since bangalore auto union is very strong. Especially if you are a north indian they tend to gang up on you. The outer ring road which nikhil is talking about is really very dangerous. I have witnessed lots of horrible accidents there.

Speaking of Auto walas , i was once involved in a fist fight with 2 of them outside the innovative multiplex. The time was 11:30pm and me and my friend were standing at the bus stop , we were drunk but completely in our senses. Some 3 -4 auto walas were parked there , we had to go to banaswadi , i asked them to go by meter and take the night charge but they realizing that we were helpless demanded a ridiculous amount of rs. 400. After all the booze we were left with some 200 bucks so we decided to wait for some cab. Within a few minutes a call centre cab came ( cc cabs are the easiest way of transport in bangalore , the fare is similar to that of a bus ) and we decided to go in it. It would have dropped us till ramamurthy nagar siginal for as cheap as 20 bucks. But as soon as we sat , one of the auto driver came and took the cab keys from the driver. He started verbally abusing the driver in kannada ( he was saying that we were his passengers and that he would not let the cab driver drop us in his cab ) The driver resisted a bit but soon all the other auto walas ganged up on him , he got shit scared and refused to take us in his cab. Now i was already drunk and this act by the auto driver only agitated me further , without thinking twice i went and slapped that auto driver hard. This resulted in a fist fight between me and him. The auto guy was quite well built , the other one not so much and the third one was very old. On the other hand me and my friend are quite heavy built ... both 6ft. We could have easily taken them down but my friend realized that we were drunk and that although we are right in our place to oppose them , nobody would have supported us. Soon the old guy started calling someone for backup , now my friend realizing the gravity of the situation somehow pulled me outta there .... we walked some 1 km and took an auto for 200 bucks. I was left with bruises all over my face , the next day i analyzed what had happened and how i could have even gotten killed or seriously injured had their backup arrived. I felt extremely lucky to have survived with just a few bruises , since then i was extra cautious when dealing with auto walas.

Moral of the story is that always try and maintain your cool and analyze the situation before acting upon it. Also that Banaglore Auto walas SUCK :|

If I had an AK-47 and some 20000 rounds....1 day would have been enough to slaughter all of them :rofl:...yes 90% of them are thugs. Of course there are bigger thugs who even beats up the autowallas and wont pay them after reaching their destination.
 
Once an autowalla pulled an Ustara(knife/blade watever :P) out at my bro. Luckily there were other auto guys to control him. My brother just got down from the auto....even before starting coz that guy will not reset the meter. so be careful when you pick a fight.

and yeah...coz supra lives in the heart of Bangalore :P ....he'd have some great experience dealing with these guys.
 
I never take an auto....once in every 3-4 mnths...and on that also I am very picky. now a days lot of Volvos are there for the rescue. Best thing to happen to them is they are not allowed in airport :rofl:

And the way auto guys extort better to just get a City taxi :)...and ya there is a reporting mechanism now a days . Just note down the no of auto(must) & the yellow license (optional w/o creating much fuss) and report to any of those cops who have the blackberry's.
 
I travel by auto everyday from BTM to M.G road.I have experience of more than 2 yrs auto travelling in bangalore:P.The worst experience was when I told the auto wallah to take me to the police station.The guy kept on going through some route instead of stopping.When I threatened to shout and create a ruckus ,he stopped .I was lucky to get some people to help me.We were not able to able to nab him.I reported the matter to police with the auto details ,but yet to recieve any updates.:S

Here are some tips which may help you when dealing with autowallahs

Always prefer digital meters ,they are more accurate and less prone to tampering .

Have a rough idea of the distance to be travelled.The total can be calculated by X* 7.(8 kms*7 =56 )

Prefer older age auto drivers to young auto wallahs.I found their meter to be much more accurate.

Speaking in Kannada helps. :)
 
I know kannada somewhat due to my stay sometime back in Mangalapuram.

back in Bangalore ,auto wallah's asks nominal rates in places like majestic etc in my experience.obviously ,northies and tamilians are targeted in Blore.

In fact ,like there is a hate wave against north indians(and against taamils).(no offense meant).

Mumbai has always been expensive because it is considered the so called 'bollywood city'. The metro adlabs in south bombay sells a single ticket for 500 rupees, now beat that! :P
 
Actually to say that only the Bangalore Autowalas are pain in d ass would be unfair to the Auto community. As the saying goes "Kutta bhi apne ghar mein sher hota hai". Its the same everywhere. Even in Delhi the situation ain't that different. Mainly the outsiders are targeted as they are new , helpless and alone in an alien city. As far as the Southindians hating Northies are concerned , its true. One of the reasons they hate them is because they are Racist . As are most of the northindians. I can only imagine the trouble a south indian would have to face if he/she would land up in a big city like delhi. It sometimes makes me wonder why we Indians complain of other countries being racist towards us when in fact we are the most racist one of the lot.
 
U r calling South Indian Racist ? are u on Drugs? i am a south Indian 'Hardcore' and am far from a racist ..U have the makings of Hitler keep it up ..My Fiance is a North Indian wat does that tell u?

I am calling every Indian a Racist and yes that includes South Indians. My ex was a south Indian , what does that prove anyways ? I am talking about people's mindset in general. "Madrasi" jokes are very famous all over north india the same way the south indians make fun of northies. If thats not racism then what is ? We all got agitated when Andrew symonds passed racist remarks at harbhajan but we are the ones who make the worst kind of racist jokes ever. Be it regarding Pakis or americans or Britishers or muslims or madrasies or chinkis or whomever.
 
very true. but in my experience ,once this south vs north is bringed ,this thread will end up in a flame fest. my 2 paise(cents). :P

Wat it proves is if i were a racist since u seem to speak for all of India wud i be getting married to a North Indian?
Just because u had a bad time down south dnt generalize us ... its like saying because most terror attacks are caused by Muslim fundamentalist outfits Muslims are Terrorists ? Wen i was small a lot of North Indians in my school made fun of me since i am dark but i never once generalized them , never once thinking North Indians are crazy racist ..BS bro complete BS.
 
Okay , first of all stop making assumptions. I spent my college life down south and it was a wonderful experience for me. I don't hate south Indians infact i feel they are way more cultured then most of us north indians. I have spent 4 years of my life in bangalore , 3 years in chennai and the rest in delhi. I have seen the best and worst of these cities. I am making a generalized statement here. I did not mean to say that each and every indian is a racist but i do believe that racism is very much present amongst us. All that united India crap we read in newspapers or watch in movies is utter BS. India ain't united in fact its far from it. Latest example is the plight of northindians in mumbai. You just need to have a look around you , you would be living in a constant denial if you believe otherwise.

Please try and understand that i am not targetting south indians , i hold the north indians equally responsible for racism. Another point that i would like to make is that racism has nothing to do with love/hate. Just because i am racist towards a particular outfit doesn't make me hate that outfit. For example , we Indians often make racist jokes on Negros/africans ( People in colleges with African classmates can vouch for me here ) that doesn't mean we hate them. Its just the color of their skin which makes us pass a racist remark even if its meant to be humorous.

Never mentioned anything abt a united India..Ignorance of those few North Indian doesn't make all North Indians Racists...See that's my problem u seem to be generalizing every1 .

I am from South.But people think i am a northee.I think i am more of an north indian than south, Although both my parents are from south and nobody in my whole family is from north...I like northees
