How cheap can a person get? To me, it looks like Shiva Ayyaduri sets the bar on how low one can get.

He claims to have invented e-mail on his own although it has been around prior to his claimed invention date.

While the media was paying respects to Raymond Tomlinson for his contributions towards laying the foundations for the concept of email in the ARPANET days, this is what this guy Shiva Ayyadurai has to say.

I'm the low-caste, dark-skinned, Indian, who DID invent #email. Not Raytheon, who profits for war & death.Their mascot Tomlinson dies a liar

Granted that he created a custom e-mail system named EMAIL and got a copyright for his implementation, but that does not make him an inventor of e-mail altogether when the basis for the same has been laid out a while before him.

He's a retard plain and simple. The RFCs for the e-mail system existed long before this guy did anything.

I couldn't understand his logic either, he's plain opportunist I feel. He's playing the Dalit and racist victimization card in US !!

There's a difference between patenting and Copyrighting I think, anybody who understands these things can elucidate it further?

I had never heard of him till I saw this thread. Read a few articles and thought that he will make a great friend to Ankit Fadia. What an embarrassment. Gawd damn Indians. :@
I also think that some news reports (Huffington, Washington and Smithsonian) made a mistake when they published his articles and credited him as the inventor of email.
Just imagine this: what kind of a person do you have to be for your own professors and colleagues in your institute to hate you or to put it in their own words a "dick"?
As for the patent thing, we all know that the U.S. doesn't have the best policies on patents and copyrights.

^^ The idea of web based e-mail that Hotmail realized was actually Jack Smith's. He shared his ideas with Sabeer Bhatia, a colleague of his at Apple at the time. They started hotmail together. While Sabeer's role was primarily that of running the company, Jack was the CTO and the main engineering mind.
