Should I buy this used ups?

Guys I'm getting a 9 yr old used Apc BR1500 online ups which has dual batteries @ dirt cheap price.

Both of its batteries were replaced with an Exide one for 1.7k 3 yrs back and since then the ups was used scarcely.

Just want to know how well will be the performance of almost 10yr old ups?
I dont know anything about UPS and life of its inside components like circuit/pcb/or any such parts etc. incl. all 3 pin plugs so how about it?

The same ups costs a bomb online for approx 13k in market and online.

So guys suggest if its sweet to go for this.

I am not an expert but I dont think 3 year old Exide batteries(normal plated ones, not tubular) can be of much use. I believe they must be at the end of their life cycle. Also their current holding capacity depends on their usage pattern in these 3 years.

Ok then I can afford to put in new exide batteries but what about the original ups life minus batteries??

The batteries of a ups have a useful life of about 3-5 years so even if the current exide one is working it won't be able to hold charge for very long. another year and you'll probably need to replace it.
As far as the quality of the rest of the components goes; APC makes decent quality ups' but this one is 9 years old so no way of knowing how reliable its going to be.
I would say this is worth it only if its REALLY cheap because even with new batteries, it might develop problems.

you'll anyways need to replace the batteries in UPS. i've noticed that older models work just fine. only issue with older models is that they are difficult to fix in case the electronics die on you.

Ok so are you referring to the other onboard components apart from batteries???[DOUBLEPOST=1426166775][/DOUBLEPOST]Even if I put in new batteries will it give the same performance as like 10 yr back??
Eg: On 400w load if it lasted 20min at that time, will I get the same time backup now for same load or may be some fractional reduction of 10-20% ?

I know that just putting in new batteries wont renew the whole thing hence a bit afraid.

yes.

they don't keep on manufacturing PCBs for older models. so, it's gone forever if one of those boards fails. but these older models are much more robust. so, you can buy this one.

battery is only part that needs periodic replacement in case of a simple UPS. so, why won't replacing the batteries renew it?

next category of obvious breakable parts are the mechanical components. push-buttons and that fan in your case. but those are serviceable.

Ideally if you put in the same rated/capacity batteries then it should deliver same performance

Amount of load it can take depends on the UPS(865W in your case), how long it can last depends on the battery capacity (rated in AH), so if the equipment is good, it might reach your expectation.

Not advisable. Batteries are the obvious ones that are replaced.
Electronics deteriorate over time. Any small problem you won't get spares.

Ok finally I'm going for this ups.
Now the main issue is that the data port consists of a RJ50 port to USB (pc) and that cable is missing.
The user never bothered about plugging in the cable as he didnt had any knowledge about that port or anything extra. He simply used the ups as is like a common man.

Can I get this cable locally or on some Indian websites?

Also whats so much with RJ45/RJ50?? APC seems to be using only RJ50.
Amazon.com: Questions And Answers: It suppose to be 10 pin RJ50, not 8 pin RJ45 connector.

So confusion is that RJ45 cannot be used on RJ50 unless modifying 2 wires.
