hello friends,

Will it be worth the money if i buy a sound card for my PC???....

Motherboard-Asus m4A-78 EM/1394

Speakers-Iball Tarang 5.1 wooden speakers

currently connected through onboard audio port in 5.1 config.

USed for gaming, occasional HD movies,DVDs etc...

IMHO not required, your onboard will be enough to drive your speakers.

Still you want to buy go for creative SB 5.1 card.

Creative sound blaster 5.1 ~900/-

Creative Audigy value 7.1 ~ 1.5k

Asus Xonar DG ~ 1.5K (will recommend this if you are spending 1.5K)

If you are planning for Creative Sound Blaster 5.1, then please buy "Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX" model as it supports Windows 7. the plain Sound blaster 5.1 doesn't have drivers for Windows 7. i changed my sound card due to this reason .

These days onboard sound cards improved a lot than past. If you are willing to pay above 4K then only you get a better sound card than the on board one.

With cheap sound card you may not feel the difference.

Sorry for disrupting a conversation.
I also have an iBall Booster 5.1 ch speaker. It doesn't have Optical out.

I'm using it with my laptop and I'm unable to get the 5.1 channel output, Its only stereo. How can it be acheived? Is it necessary I buy an amp? Or any external Sound card will work?

Planning to get a PS3 very soon, what should I get in order to get 5.1 channel surround sound using the same speakers? Is it possible?
