i read what you quoted and am replying to your statement.

Ren made a point about when a thread will be made sticky. You made a post about our claiming the channel as ours. Going strictly by what has been posted, i posted what i did and my advice still stands.

Irrespective of what you discussed with ren, you made a post here claiming a point which i don't think stands and thats what i said.
 
I'm sure we agree to disagree with each other then... IRC channels are a lot of fun, so I'm going to hang there.
 
i am afraid we agree on the aspect of IRC channels being a lot of fun. :D when did i say they weren't.

The point being discussed here is whether TE needs an official irc channel and right now we cannot have that. (that however might change in future)

I know this has been answered to already in this thread, but do think twice before passing on comments/opinions/accusations that put others in unjustified bad light.

If it is so good and people will take interest then the thread will get bumped to the top of the forums everyday on its own. Doesnt have to be a sticky.

wow...nice idea never came to my mind before...

it would be great to have a shoutbox or a chat room..

lotssa fun along with sharing of knowledge !!

and it will also help to know members better...

I read old post and your reply about Stress on Server FUnkey..

But the Shoutbox from Inferno will not let a lot stress on a server.. it hardly eats bout 5mb/day..

I am damn sure.. TE server supports more than 25GB/month :ohyeah:
 
Its not about the server resources, its about the idea of forum and tech community. Shoutbox is not needed on a tech community. Real time chat to solve issues is not the motive of the forums. Here everything is archived, available as reference and through search in the future. This point has been well discussed in that other thread. TE itself is not the fun site. You can always visit the funenclave :)

Also its not about the BW issue. Chat feature used to put lot of stress on server resources ( Ram / CPU usage ) and hence it was removed.

The Mods and Admins are very busy..(blah) (blah)..shoutbox (blah)......stress on serv..(blah blah)......uncontrolled spammers in irc..(blah blah blah blah blah).....unofficial status..(blah)...nogo shoutbo..(blah)....mods dont use irc..(blah blah)....community meaning lost..(blah blah blah)....te is tech..(blah blah) site.......some mods do not like irc (blah) (blah) (blah) .... loose control of site ...gain knowledge from forums..... (blah blah blah)..... solutions are archived in forums ....(blah blah blah).....mods dont know how irc operates ...(blah blah blah).....Enough of useless rant.Thread will be locked now and we will think about it in future..

I guess i covered the next few pages of discussion :tongue:

You heard it.

There is no shoutbox coming here. Although Khimu the reasons are not blah blah ones.

Btw Ajax does not make a shoutbox any less server intensive. Its not even about BW we are talking about. Its the concurrent connections and the storage of the content that matters which is not possible to support for site as big as TE.
 
^^ Seeing the abuse of shot box its pretty risky to implement SB here :P Cause it can create riots :rofl: Hope Safin gets it :P
 
Personally, I don't like the concept of shoutboxes. IMs are there if we need to chat in real time. I prefer to post after thinking properly about my response and I appreciate it so much more when other's do the same. My two pence.
