Flash back and forth between the 1950’s Soviet Union and the present-day while fighting scary mutants and Soviet soldiers in the latest first person shooter from Raven Software. While this is not the most original of ideas, Singularity is still a very fun game with a plethora of superpowers placed in your hands.

Singularity first worldwide review from Gladriel! (Singularity) - Review details - PS3 - Gladriel

Rating: 8.4

Now this looks promising. I already tried the game for 40 minutes myself. It seems to have lifted a lot of elements from BioShock. The graphics have that typical UE3 touch. I can't believe they missed integrating subtitles into the game. Why on earth would someone do that in a 2010 game? A lot of the plot detail is missed out because of the background environmental sounds and the audio diaries volume isn't very great either. No health regeneration this time round and you'll get stimpacks to heal yourself. As far as weapons are concerned, you can carry one primary weapon (fixed) which is a Centurion Revolver and a secondary weapon; AR9 Valkyrie (Assault Rifle), Volk S4 (auto shot-gun) & Kasimov SNV (Sniper rifle). There are more secondary weapons to come in the game. You can also upgrade these weapons at designated upgrade stations. The initial enemies encountered are just a bunch of mutated maniacs. This game is definitely worth a try.

Ethan, thanks for sharing this. I read up about it, the TMD (Time Manipulation Device) options seem interesting. Seems a 'wee bit' like the Timeshift options...! You tried this on which platform..? Any idea about the textures on PC --- console port vs. genuine platform build..?

Will try this.

I tried this on the 360 and the textures have the common Gears of War muddy look. Don't think it would boost up anymore on the PC version either. I haven't got to the bit where you can manipulate time and objects, but yes, it does sound much like TimeShift. As for as the PC version is concerned, it's developed by Raven Software, so if we look at their past optimisation with X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Wolfenstein on the PC, you can easily expect a sharper looking game for the PC.

Playing the PC version currently.
The gfx is pretty gud and so is the game.Didnt have much time to play yesterday.
Will play this and Sniper Ghost Warrior today over this weekend.

Finished the game just now. The story was very good. I felt the game being too easy on hard mode also. It has 3 endings.

Installed a while back and played it for sometime. Game seems to be quite ok. The storyline is fairly good - some new element discovered on a remote island in the erstwhile USSR during 1950s, strange lab experiments, the facility goes down due to some catastrophe termed 'Singularity' and the site is shut down by the govt. In 2010, some satellite is brought down due to some sort of radiations from the site and a recon team is sent to investigate and we play as Nate Renko, the protagonist of the game. The chopper is brought down due to some EMP from the site, crash lands into the site and our partner Devlin, is missing. And the game starts.

Got the first 2 weapons - a pistol with rounds based on the new element discovered and the assault rifle.

The Unreal Engine 3.0 seems to be going easy on my system luckily with all the eye candy. :P

Completed the game pretty quick thanks to the weekend and saw all the 3 endings. Gameplay was good and the storyline was very impressive indeed. At times, it felt as if I was playing HL2 with the TMD lol. Anything related to horror was average - I think Doom 3 and FEAR would be better contenders for an FPS horror title. :)

As for the arsenal, I loved the Autocannon aka gattling gun more than anything else. I have a fetish for this weapon - RTCW had the venom, UT/UT2003/UT2004/UT3 had the minigun, Uncharted 2 had the GAU minigun and so forth. The best part was keeping the barrel revolving by pressing the right mouse button. :D

Enemy AI was okay'ish. Nothing great.

Next up: POP TFS. :P
