SleepMate - Sound conditioner / white noise generator

Hi,

Its kind of odd topic, I am looking to buy a sound conditioner / white noise generator for my kid who has trouble settling into sleep at night.

Have any of you used this? Is there anything equivalent we can get it in India? is there any portable device which can play mp3 files via USB which I can use it in the interim? Kindly assist.

White noise is pretty easy to generate. I use it most often to test and burn-in speakers, and there are free programs that will create one for you. You can also get sound files which you can splice together and play it off a small portable player.

White noise is also generated naturally by FM radios tuned into a blank station, or a TV with no signal.

A White Noise generator is an unnecssary contraption if you have a FM radio, or a PC/Laptop with speakers.

The static on the FM radio is white noise. Just tune into a frequency without any stations. On a PC/Laptop, you can easily download white noise, pink noise, etc from various sites. I remember Wikipedia having these, and various other sounds available for download.

We use white noise when making music all the time, any modern synthesizer will make some for you. Google for an mp3 file, if you can't find one, I'll make you one real quick.
