baba amte

thats just one in a string of names i can come up with.

Also, care to elucidate the 'systemic bias' you are referring to? If you are talking about reservations and such like, did you know that even the US of A has something similar? Google up academic/admissions diversity.

You see IIPM where once someone compared their degrees to a value of a toilet paper- and then you see the film where a kid falls in a place full of shit for an autograph. Does one see the hidden reason for criticism here :D.

oh! the chap who is behind the scam called IIPM

I keep coming across full page Ads of IIPM in leading dailies making tall claims, and a friend of mine is looking to get admission in one, what's the REAL truth?

Sorry for being OT.

That's fine, but can you give them the recognition? Can you name them before West finds them

If it was not obvious from my previous posts, we should not care what the West thinks of India or Indians.

We can certainly give recognition and contribute to NGOs and Individuals working for betterment of the country.

Usually i don't tend to agree with people i hate but Mr. Arindam Chaudhuri has hit the nail on the head ! Salaam Bombay was above and beyond this movie, SDM is just a pile of facades, cliches and biases the director wanted to conform too.
+10000.

It seems as if every shot was taken with an Oscar in mind.

well even i was thinkin of gettin admission there...

SDG is a good movie yaar.

y we want all the wrong things happnin in this country to be hidden.

let it come to the fore, let others see it , let there be criticism.

atleast criticism can try its bit to make india a better place to live !

Its funny how the movie depicts indian slums in a bad way and the movie gets awards like anything! India has "I am poor, i need smypathy" written on its forehead and now the whole world sees it, knows it, perception has changed and we are f****** proud of this  neverthe less the music is good but thats 'coz of Rehman. I sometimes wonder how India would've ben if the brits never rules us.. even worse

Please stop looking at the movie like it's some sort of a docu-drama on India. It's an extremely cheesy movie as such and not really worthy of the hype it's getting (forget awards). It's almost in the veins of priyadarshan flicks where comic scenes are joined together for the sake of it, the only difference here is that the director is selling misery and poverty. What's funny is that we as Indians are actually raving about this movie, sucking upto it and ignoring glaring cinematic mistakes just cause it's made "on" India and a leading music director & other artists have been nominated. A classic case of Indians looking for approval from the "gora sahibs" (As if our response to 26/11 was not proof enough of our "sucking up" attitude)

Yep, West managed to overcome the racism as much as humanely possible. Of course, biases will be there because this is how humans are wired. But unlike what we get India the biases are not in system or institutional. They are opinions of an individual and not the policy of the state.

lol... do you really believe that? Pretty much all my friends studying/working overseas would disagree. They are people over there too :P

who is Arindham Chaudhary :bleh:

Director of IIPM(indian institute of ponytail mgmt).....and who compares his institute next to IIM
Also when a reporter from jammag spelled his institute beans they went so low as quoting that the reporter during his institute days used to sleep with their proff.....

In short a worthless guy even if he says meaningful

^This entire review was part of the full page ad of IIPM....... The pony tail just wanted to grab attention ..He knew his ad was not going to fetch him teh required publicity so why not include a REVIEW in the ad .. Mybe that will get the people interested....

Did not follow you ?

Err let's not get all political in this thread. Maybe some other time time and place. For a hint let's just say it has to do with NAM, the US and how we've been sucking upto it to pressurise pak. But this isn't the thread to discuss this issue so please don't quote me on it.

lol....whats next ??....Lallu prasad is gonna review SDM!!.

How u guys even read after 4 lines.???

wow !! its a nearly 50-50 vote for this movie.hehe

Unity in Diversity. :)

After reading the posts here, I have a question: Can we do anything other than whining? Getting Oscars... whine some. Not getting Oscars... Whine more :bleh:

Fellas shed the "new-found" Indian ego and start looking at things with the real perceptive and not using the goggles of patriotism or "west is biased" shit. Poverty in India is a reality and so is that fact that we love our glass-houses too much.

Seeing the attitude here, it's no wonder that we get sh*t like Chandni Chowk To China as films

As Blady said, I do not get what the hype was all about, I had great expectations when I went to watch the movie but the movie was like any other bolly masala nice timepass flick (Although not with the typical hero/heroine flick). Yes it was good, but was it worth all the hype that its getting??Would it have got the same kinda hype if it were directed by an Indian? Na...

..or any other westerner than Danny Boyle of Trainspotting fame :)

I trust you realise what a cult movie that is.

I'm more interested to know what his motivations for this movie are, apart from the hope of cashing in and possibly getting awards.

What would you say if this were just the first amongst many, not necessarily genre but rather western directors trying out the indian thing.

Would we encourage or discourage that ?

Why would you assume that this india ego is new found? The second someone comes forward and trashes the west he becomes a patriotism goggle wearer?

If you actually bothered with opening those eyes of yours and started to look around, you would realize that we arent doing too badly after all. but then.. that depends.. on whether you are looking around through your own eyes or through the lens of some director that wants to score an oscar.
