i need some help regarding what i should buy for my new ps3.
would it be better to buy a small 22" hd monitor or a big 32 " tv? im pretty confused, i know the HD resolution is way higher than SD but is size better than quality ? my brother is pretty convinced getting a 32 inch tv is the way to go (hes paying. lol) and its costs about the same as a 22" monitor i.e around 16 k so he thinks its really rrreeealllllyyy worth it and i dont want all that money to goto waste if it isnt better than hd.
so what do you think ?

you mean 30" CRT? well in that case its a definite no unless ure getting one of those 34" widescreen full HD ones

best bet would be getting the 24" dell, Dell E248 and using it, full 1080P and 24", doesn't get any better than that for the price.

size does matter when it comes to gaming. ive tried ps2 on both & ps3 on just a hd monitor and loved gaming on the larger tv with the sacrifice in quality.

it comes down to personal choice. i'd go with size.

larger CRT's are always risky. Its kinda hard to make them right, you tend to end up with geometry/mask alignment or some other issue. dont forget the bulk/inconvenience/power consumption

note that a 24 inch PC monitor which has resolution 1920x1200 will screw up the PS3's 1920x1080 output if it is scaled.

i am getting a dell e248wfp myself soon and i *believe* i read a review/forum post which mentioned it has 1:1 pixel output which should maintain image quality of the PS3...

but to be safe, get a full-HD 1080p LCD TV for the PS3, even tho i would prefer a WUXGA PC monitor myself :)

on a scale of 10 how much is this sacrifice in quality ? 0 being same quality as hd and 10 being huge sacrifice in quality.

24" is out of the question as its a few k's expensive and i can only go in for a 22" inch hd-monitor or a 32" non-hd tv. i'd want to buy the 24 " if i had the money but my bros getting the monitor/tv and it'll be kinda hard getting him to spend more on the monitor.

See the ps3 on both and decide what you like. After playing Call of Duty 4 on my PC on a 17" LCD at 1280x1024, it looks downright hideous on my friend's 47" 1080P LCD.

If you and you alone are playing and quality matters for you, go for the 22". If you will want to play split screen, or watch a lot of movies on it (i.e. other people will also view it) go with the 32" LCD TV.

What kinda games do you play?

I find racing/arcade games to be wayy better on a large screen and FPS/shooters to be much better with higher-res close-up.

That's another way to confuse u. :D

id say around a 5...

if you already have the ps3 , take it to the showroom or someone with a 32" tv & hook it up and see if the quality is good enough. 10" is quite a difference in size.

i dont believe you can get a 22 inch "HD" monitor (im assuming you mean full-HD 1080p or WUXGA 1920x1200?)... so looks like its a TV for your PS3 :)

If getting a monitor, then 24" because the resolutions match much better on 24" monitor. Otherwise you can go for TV, but monitor would be a better choice according to me.

No, he means 720p HD = 1280x720 and Non-HD = SVGA/VGA 800x600/640x480

So there is still a HUGE difference between the two.

I feel a PS3 is wasted with a normal CRT, but that's just me. :)

^ ive heard that alot too but i dont know if its really true
my friend who owns a cybercafe says hes using an AOC 22" monitor with 1080p and it costs like 13-14 k .
so far heres how things are
hd monitor -
pros-
better detail and resolution
slimmer/smaller/less bulky
can be attached to a wall
cons-
small screen
singleplayer only (multiplayer = pain)
needs audio attachments
needs purchase of seperate speakers
needs hdmi to dvi cable

hugeass tv-
pros-
bigger image
better for splitscreen
no need for any other attachments
no need for the hdmi to dvi cable
can be used to watch TV, movies through a dvd player and with the ps2
cons-
about half the image quality of HD/low res
bulky
people with experience say "ps3's are wasted on normal crt's "
anything else anyone wants to add to the list ? i should just weight the pros and cons against each other to make a better decision.

@drift: how will you connect the 360 to the 248 ? the lcd has only dvi and vga... will a hdmi-to-dvi converter work, assuming an xbox has hdmi out?

I havent used it, But i think, With a ps3, A big screen is a must..
U cud wait some time and get a 32inch lcd tv..
REally it would not be that much fun...
Try it on a 32inchtv and then see...
You also get hd crts, google a bit..

ull regret SD man

the text and all is blurred... not so much as u wont be able to read, but just as much to annoy the living hell out of u.

the E248 is for 17k via that dell grouporder thats going on na, u can pick one up from there, else ask stormblast to arrange one for u for 17.9k, believe me, u won t regret it

alright so heres the thing -

1. i used the ps3 on the 29" tv at home and it didnt look so good. infact it looks pretty blurry and in formula 1 championship edition you could barely make out the burning fuel of the cars at the starting lineup and reading the speedometer was hard. the menus were slightly flickery at the edges and reading any small text was a drag. i couldnt read the laptimes i was posting without having to pay special attention to the top right of my screen. maybe it was just the crappy tcl 29" tv i was using or maybe thats how it looks on a big screen sd.
2. i used the ps3 on the 21" sansui tv in my room and the graphics were alot better and i could make out the burning fuel of cars at the start lineup a little better. it got a little easier to read the laptimes too without paying too much attention but the screen still felt flickery at the edges and i couldnt read the trivia at the loading screens well while sitting back on my bed.
3. my bro bought an AOC 22" widescreen monitor with a contrast ratio of 2000:1 (in comparison to dell's 800:1/1000:1 in the same price range) and i found a HUGE difference in clarity. the burning fuel haze was amazing, the colors are mucccchhh better, theres absolutely no flickering and for once i could actually make out opponent cars in my cars rear view mirrors. the text was sharp and very readable even while i was sitting way back in my bed or chair. infact in the game "unchartered-drakes fortune " you can find a world of a difference between a big screen and smaller hd monitor in every which way. i didnt even know that the coin in the loading screen had anything written on it on my normal SD tv until i saw it in HD.

final verdict : HD >>>>> big SD . for anyone else who has this kind of doubt while buying a next gen console take it from me - a smaller HD monitor is MUCH better than a big screen SD tv.
about the need to play split screen multiplayer on a big screen, its tough as it is to read text while playing in single player mode and things get more blurrier and un-understandable when the screen gets split in half. youll still have more fun playing on an HD tv or monitor instead of a huge tv screen. it just isnt the same. and im confirming what 'they' say is true, a ps3 is wasted on an sdtv.
