Hi
Planning to get a smartwatch. I decided on the Sony Smartwatch 2 but the announcement of the galaxy gear 2 has got me confused.
The form factor of the gear 2 makes it look really big on the wrist , especially the length of around 57mm.
I would appreciate feedback from existing users.

Thanks

What are your requirements for a smart watch ? Or you want to buy just because it is sort of In thing ?
I would anyday suggest you assess your requirements and mention them here.

Actually its for notifications, basically. The sony watch serves the same purpose but gear neo is 4k more expensive but has other features like health tracking etc.

Which smart phone do you have most importantly?
Neither gear nor Sony one will work flawlessly with other devices...

Did you evaluate Pebble ? Since more important for you seem to be notifications.

I didn't like the pebble. The buttons are very cumbersome for practical purpose. Also it doesnt have India warranty. To top it all, it has serious problems with backlash.

Backlash - back light. It's lighted by 4 led's on each corner and have seen two cases wherein two led went defective within 2 months.

Will this get old after a bit ? what more can it do.

Have trouble with the idea that watch needs to charged, depending on the model, either every couple of days, at the weekend or battery change after a month. I never did this with watches before. So one has to be very motivated.

The tech is too cutting edge at the moment. This means subsequent models will be significantly better and worthy upgrades.

don't think there is a dilemma now, maybe after a few more years :)

Exactly same boat as you.

I am a self proclaimed watch lover. So anything smart watch, I am not a beliver. Yet, I would love to have a notification system. It lead to me to just one device. Thats not even in market.

Razer Nabu. You should wait for it.

The thing i hate about smart watch are: 1. Its tethered always 2. It needs to be recharged every 3 or 4 days. But i guess I have to live with item 1. But recharging ever 3 or 4 days.
No. already doing that to 2 of my backup phones. :@For a "watch", these are not acceptable to me. I used pebble and Galaxy gear from friends for 1 weeks each (Love being in US :D :D :D.). They are good for what they offer. but i am not going to add them to the list of one more items to be maintained. I dont want gestures or camera or anything.

Razer nabu is the thing i am happy with compromising. Its tethered yes, but at least battery life looks promising. and the design, I love. I can put it on my other arm.
like a wrist band. Its almost incognito.

All this from my point of view. I just want notifications. I want to retain my watch collection. NEVER going to replace them with any smart watch.
And i dont want a bulky peice of tech on my body. A month with google glass made me realize that. I dont want people staring at me. :@ :@ :@

these smart watches were offered free in some markets, UK as well.

I just want notifications.
Notification light on the phone ? assuming yours has one. Loads of the xperias do them and its quite useful.

Otherwise people have learnt over the last ten years to check for missed calls.

right, so google glass gets in the way of the social dynamic. Just imagine what it is like talking to you and you keep looking at your watch every few minutes expecting a notification. Either we are boring you or you have to be some place else.

As usual, your posts are B$.

Phones are getting bigger for me. I am on Note 3 now, next up is iphone 6 if its big screen or Lumia 1520. I have to admit, its big and chunky. Its in my pocket all the time. and I have a red case. Taking it out during meetings is a No No.I don't like taking my phone out when i am having bf, lunch or dinner with others. As with every phone i used, when i use it in silent mode, I miss many calls. As it doesn't vibrate enough.I dont want to increase the intensity as i work in a quiet office environment where vibrate is as annoying as sound mode. I have to use silent.

Hence i want a notification system. So I went to smart watches. I even bought a cuckoo outright. End up gifting to someone else.

Razer Nabu is the best option for me. as its discreet.

Please learn to understand that when a user posts something and explicitly says its about his expectation and experiences, it actually means that. He doesn't give a shit what you want him to think. If i sound rude, Its becoz I am. I am sad that this forum has a member like you who who actually have no clue what he is talking about.

Have you even used a smart watch? Or did you take your doctorate by reading online reviews and watching videos?

I base my experience on buying things and actually using them and then telling others.

@m-jeri I have the same problems and hence planning a smartwatch. What's your take on the galaxy gear. Was is too uncomfortable and bulky coz thats what you don't want a watch to be. Sony is 48 grams vs the gear 2 at 74 grams. However the gear 2 has health options which has got me confused between the two.

When I use Gear or any smart watch, I cannot wear my normal watch. And I don't like the recharge cycle frequency. I mean, how many devices I need to charge constantly. :(.
I travel a lot. and I have 3 phones and ipad air with me all the time. among other things. :@
I simply cannot keep a timetable for charging. Wish R&D is spend for long lasting batteries.

And Whats the use of a camera in a watch? I dont understand it.

Best thing is, borrow one and use it for sometime. As of now, I would say its a waste of money.

I was gifted a sony smart watch by my brother last time when i was in India. Gave it back to him after few days.:). Told him to get me something that i can use.

At least for now, with smart watches, people are going to try to convince themselves that they need the watch and come up with various reasons.
In most cases it is a want item because it is cool and all. Anyways to each to its own.

Also the justification that since phones are getting bigger and hence there is need of notifications in a smaller accessory devices is bit absurd IMO.
If the phones are getting bigger then one Always has an option of buying a smaller size phone. But then most people need latest and greatest.

Buying a small size phone is not an option for me atleast. I am planning to stop using my tablet. To replace it with a phone which have "manageable" big screen.

Moar pixels. I cannot use my Galaxy Nexus. As the screen is totally driving me nuts.

Only reason why I haven't bought a iphone till now. the screen area for that gorgeous retina panel is too small. The moment iphone goes above 5 inch I am buying it.

But yeas, a smart watch is not a in product now. As it was when ipad was launched for the first time.

Anyways I dont want a smart watch. Nabu is not a smart watch per say.

And what about those that don't have this 'contraint', what compelling reasons can you offer for them to own such a watch ?

So tell us more. Not heard of Nabu yet.

And there is no requirement to own a product to be able to speak coherently about it.

More importantly, how long will you end holding onto this device before replcing it with something else.

Reviewers i find cannot help me with that question. Whatever they review gets replaced regularly on a quarterly cycle.

I do understand that the smart watch technology is at its most infant stage. And with moto 360 around the corner, the technology is going to change and advance at key speed this year,

However, I am in meetings for nearly 3 hours and have to mute the phone. Looking at the screen every now and then isn't permissible and rude.

Hence, my immediate requirement for a smart watch. Also , my main concerns are comfort in wearing and shouldn't overwhelm my wrist.

Unfortunately as I don't have botH the watches on demo in my city, hence this thread.

Wouldn't looking at a watch every few minutes or so be rude ? May be the presenter or someone may think that you are feeling "Yeh boring meeting kab khatam hoga, kya dimaag ki mother sister kar rahe hai" :P[DOUBLEPOST=1396408197][/DOUBLEPOST]

Since it is Apple, you will have to wait but there is a good chance you will get that manageable size (more than 5" screen) iPhone. May be not in 2014 but good chance is next year end.

Agree. I tested out the Z1c vs the Z1 and made the same discovery checking out the indian railways schedules.

the difference between 4.3 & 5 inch is a fingers width on the screen, but trying looking for info on a busy web page ie schedules and you got to hold that thing up right to your face because the font size is just too small. Make it big and you are in scroll hell.

With the 5 inch screen i could read at arms length. There is no lifting the phone up every time i want to look at something.

I was quite sad to realise this because that 720p screen has some major advantages over bigger phones, same will apply to iphone as well with bigger screens. You'll just have to put up with the performance hit.

Have to be able to browse on the move and not get a headache doing it. There IS a reason why the world moved on to bigger screens. 4.7 is ideal but that boat has come & gone. Its either 5 or 5.2 now.

Anyways I dont want a smart watch. Nabu is not a smart watch per say.
Smart band is what they are calling it, a cross between fit bit & smartwatch.[DOUBLEPOST=1396417685][/DOUBLEPOST]

So what happens when you see the notification. Can you actually reply to it. No. You're in a meeting. What happens then ?
