consider a athlon IIx2 630 with that hd 4890

and a single dvd drive

please suggest me a smps so that i cannot go for anything below that

another que---will that proccy bottle neck my gpu

GP 650W
TAgan BZ 500W
CM RP 500
VX 550
HX 620
TX 750

All in ascending order of price. Nope processor wont bottleneck till 60FPS in games like GTA4 which is max even with i7

I've run a overclocker Q9550 and a overclocked 4890 on a VX450 salefy for atlesat 15 days.

But I'd say get atleast a decent brand 500w PSU, tagan 500w should be fine I guess.

Do check out the FSP series as well - has some decent deals for just under 3k. What exactly is your budget?

Its recommended to have at least 32 amps on 12v rail for HD 4870 and higher.

GP 650/Tagan BZ 500 @4.5k/4.5k

I have RP 460w, I have run GTX 260 + 720 BE @ 3.4ghz with no issues.
Stick with GP 650W its ur best bet.

For that budget, VX450 is the best with 200-300/- more. It's main advantage over the others at the same price is 5yrs warranty, gr8 ASS from Corsair and their lower rating.

IMO GP650 is one of the best deals out there after HX 620 and TX 650.

For 4.5k go for it blindly.

It may be able to take 2 X 4890s as well though I am not too sure.

Where did you see that ?? AMD's numbers are generally too low.
For a high end system, a minimum of 550W/approx 40Amps on 12V is recommended.

But for a 620,he may be able to get it to run fine.

3.5k max:( can gp 650w handle 2x hd4890

I find it funny, ppl with enough cash for 2 4890s can spend more on PSUs.

anyways, answer is a big NO. You need need at least 700W as minimum recommend is 750W (again, these are not numbers given by AMD). On a 650W you will be running it on its borderline.

The GP 650 is way beyond overhyped - could anyone point me to a link which shows that it could run a pair of 4890s on crossfire?

I don't get the point.. the Glacial is rated at over 84% and its got 650W true power and still people suggest VX550/tagan 500W which is rated at around 83% and is approx or a lil more than the price of a GP 650A.. only thing lacking is the 2 year warranty period from the Glacial..
