I recently went on an upgradation spree, well it not yet complete :P
I have chotted down my complete config below along with their power consumption, If I've missed something or something is wrong please do correct me..
Item | Power Consuption Intel Q9550 E0 (OC'ed to 3.6G-4G) | 120w MSI P45 Neo2-FR | 70w Gskill 2x2GB 900Mhz/1000Mhz @ 2.1v | ??? MSI HD4890OC 880/999 (OC'ed to 950/1100) | 200w (on 12v - ~16amp) Seagate 7200.11 1TB (ST31000333AS) | 10w (12v - 0.52A // 5v - 0.72A) Seagate 7200.11 500GB (ST3500320AS) | 10w (12v - 0.42A // 5v - 0.65A) Seagate 7200.12 500GB (ST3500410AS) | 10w (12v - 0.52A // 5v - 0.72A) ASUS DVDRW 1814BL | 25w (12v - 1.5A // 5v - 1.2A) (2x) Scythe Slip-Stream 110CFM | ~13w (12v - 0.53A) (3x) CoolerMaster 69CFM | ~13w (12v - 0.37A) ############################## | ################### TOTAL | ~471Watts
I know one can juice out over 500watts from the vx450, but still..
I don't want to be straing it so much that If I add one more fan or an HDD and capictor's start bursting lile pop-corn..
Also the Q9550 hasn't arrived yet, I'm also thinking of upgrading the chassis to a HAF922
So what do you guys think.. should I get VX550/HX520?

The figures that you have reached are very much inflated. In reality you will be hard pressed to reach 400W.

But yes, you can do better to upgrade VX450. Don't settle for anything less than VX550. Preferable is Antec EarthWatts 650W or HX620W

I have taken all the power consumption figures to their peak levels. just to be sure that is. I'm sure in reality however at full load it would hover around ~390-400 Watts.
Also I wanted to leave a little headroom.. The reason I'm keen on buying it now is because of the 15%(Rs1000) ebay coupons I've got :P

P.S. - My budget is Rs.5500. Since VX550 is listed for Rs.6200 on ebay, I'll be buying it at Rs.5270(6200-930).

Yup VX550 will be purrfect as your actual peak consumption wont go above 430W even if u put a huge OC on the i7 and 4890. And 15% off means VX550 for less than Rs. 5k! :hap2: Go for it!

^Arey bhai, it wont be less than 5k, It'll be ~5.2k
Also is there any better offering from CM in the same range? I would really like a modular PSU

^^Oops forgot to assume eBay overhead and thought the price is 5.8k. Anyways, if you wish to go modular, then HX620 would be the recommendation and Not HX520. But i guess that will step out of your budget.

IMO: Modular wont be VFM cause you will be using most of the wires/cables anyways :P

If u can use this coupon for buying GlacialPower GP-AL650AA, its great. Please note this model number.

Just my 2 cents.

Okay.. It boild down to these 3 contenders.
I'm highly inclined towards VX550, but GlacialPower is very tempting, Please advice...

Although i have run 4870x2+Q9450 overclocked to 3.8ghz on a VX450 24x7, i would rather suggest you to go for Seasonic 500W.

PS: Power mentioned is AC power at Outlet, Actual Consumption will be 0.8*PowerAC

= 308W DC Load

p39g.png
= 416W DC Load

On Overclocking your system, Yes the VX450 can easily handle the Peak 400W DC load from your system when running Furmark + Prime, But you asked for Headroom na.. :P

I dont have i7, will be getting Q9550 next month.
Im so confused now :S I'm getting VX550 for Rs.5200 net, to buy or not to buy..

^^I see you dont have any sound card :P spend some there...

Like Sidhu said, 330W on load , even assuming peak spikes of 370W, You don't need VX550 :)

But in case your itch doesn't finish, buy the GlacialPower 650AA
