Re: SOCOM 4 Discussion Thread
Just completed the first 2 levels. The game isn't that bad, but isn't massively interesting either. The graphics are average, at best. Frame rates are steady. Character animations are very stiff. Voice acting is decent enough. The gameplay is a combination of effectively using your squad (when needed) or go in Rambo ishtyle and get slaughtered. Either way, you have a choice of playing the way you want. One of the problems this game faces is the enemy aren't easily spotted. It's difficult to make out where exactly the enemy RPG person is positioned, as they are very tiny. The last time I faced this issue was when I played Sniper: Ghost Warrior. Thankfully, in that game, we had a sniper. The game has checkpoint save to re-spawn between the game, but if you quit out of it, in the middle of the game, then you resume the whole mission from the start. Prior to every mission, we have a weapon load out. So you can choose which arsenal you want to carry. You have one primary weapon and a back up weapon. This combined with grenades, flashbangs and C4 can be chosen as additional handy weapons.
By the end of the second mission, you will have 2 teams with 2 people each. So you have the Blue Squad and the Gold squad. Each of which you can command, individually or combined. Gold team is basically sniper and stealth experts, so they can cover wider area and be keep it quite. Blue team is the opposite. They are effective in heavy close combat support. If either of your team member goes down during a fight, you'll have to revive him/her with an, for the lack of better term, health shot. But if you die, you're DEAD. You don't get any revival shot. Sucks, doesn't it? Any-hoo, the mission that I'm on right now seems to be going in completely Splinter Cell style stealth. So will need to have another session before we know how the game eventually fares.
