Some hit games similar to movies!

This thread is intended to discover the games which have copied some thing/or many things from a movie and still was a hit.(even if it wasnt a hit you can discuss it too:D)

Well i was watching scorpion king again this time seriously.:D

suddenly it stuck me that i have seen all these somewhere else and its strikingly similar to something....within seconds warrior within started flashing in my mind and yes of course it was confirmed when the movie ended with the same title track "i stand alone"(earlier i hadn't noticed that:D)

that means "warrior within" only has the story different.everything else(clothes,background,castle,locations,etc etc.. )is almost similar to the movie the scorpion king.

No wonder it was a hit!

Now comes another game.

MODERN WARFARE 2

if you guys have seen the movie the rock.The mission "gulag" in modern warfare 2 is 95% similar.even that jail was completely copied.

if you also have anything similar to share then please do post it here.

Er guys thanks for replying. but if those games you have mentioned have any resemblance to a movie then please do mention.

even stalket soc has a nice story.There is also a film about the same name as i havent seen that film yet.but i have read that its story is a bit similar to soc.
 
Most story based games are generally inspired by movies. The GTA Vice City was inspired by Scarface, GTA 3 had some parts of Goodfellas in it. Mafia was inspired by Godfather and Goodfellas. Most World war FPS like COD series and MOH series are inspired by films like Saving Private ryan, Black Hawk Down, Enemy at the gates etc.

Its the other trend which to me seems more interesting where the movies are being inspired by games. We already have a Hitman, Mortal Kombat, Max Payne and Prince of persia films which have done well. Even a sequel to the Hitman movie has been confirmed which will closely follow the story of upcoming Hitman 5 game.

whew nice man ! havent seen scarface yet.but there is also a game based on this movie with the same name i think.

Yes you are right! quite forgot about it.

anyways its acceptable because both were created by steven spielberg only. :D

even both of them have almost the same music.

sorry but here i couldnt agree with you. mostly this pattern which you have mentioned didnt worked too well even the opposite also have the same outcome.

Infact a game based movie which did well was resident evil series!

reason :- i think is that though the movie is based on the game.but it has completely different storyline.that's what i think made it more interesting.

even at first i was interested at the pop movie.but when i came to know they have a name for the prince in this movie and that too a weird one.i lost all interest in it.even some dialogues in the trailers looked a bit cheesy.:(

Well Metro 2033 was based on the famous Russian Sci Fi novel of the same name. Hardly a suprise that the story was so much better than most video game stories. Still, it didn't borrow anything from a movie.

Hmmm...an interesting topic. Had to actually sit and think for some time.

Lets see, Dead Space was definitely inspired by Event Horizon. A search and rescue mission aboard a vessel that has turned into hell. Oh yes! If you havent see Event Horizon, go see it now!

Max Payne was built like several noir films. Not just the look and feel but the plot too. A wronged cop takes law into his own hands and descends into darkness. Very cliched noir plot.

In a lot of ways I guess 'God of War' borrowed from the original 'Clash of the Titans' film. Mainly in it's butchering of Greek Mythology.

I guess Uncharted and Tomb raider were both came from the same source material, viz Indiana Jones.

Agreed. I will remember that time spent with Khan inside a metro tunnel for ever. What an epic scene!
