So I went to deposit a cheque. The lady taking the cheque looked at the amount and asked me whether it was a salary account. I said no. Then she asked me if I had a credit card and I said no thinking if she meant I had an ICICI credit card.

She did not believe me and asked the other lady computer operator sitting next to her to check in the computer and gave her my account number. All this happened brazenly in front of a few dozen people standing next to th e cheque deposit counter.
These mofo's are openly checking people's accounts to see how much money we have in our savings accounts to probably sell their shitty credit cards. Thankfully, the lady computer operator did not get any otp or something to look at my account and I took the stamped acknowledgement and fled from there.

What the hell? First aadhaar privacy breech and now, these low grade employees have access to people's accounts just like that? ICICI is the shittiest bank if they allow their employees to go through people's accounts like this.

get habitual.
Your govt has already told supreme court a camera can be installed in your bedroom.
You don't own your body.
what are you worried about?

Its not just with ICICI almost every bank is behind promoting its credit card to its customers. They might had checked your account balance to ascertain maximum credit limit.
Also how much was the cheque amount to be deposited? That might have raised their eyebrows as to you getting qualified for some premium card.

I daily get calls for shitty loans and cards based on my cibil score and savings account balance maintained. Such has gone the transparency level in bjp govt. We got no private lives anymore.

This also happened with me, and it was [.................] ICICI. (In that gap, put in all the swear words you know).

This is what transpired:

1. I walk in to get a self cheque honored. For some reason the cashier is not at the window, so I sit next to a desk array.
2. He is doing is due diligence.
3. In walks a manager lady. Starts to intervene.
4. You have a salary account.
5. Yes.
6. Whispers to the teller -- check balance.
7. He does.
8. She wants me to buy some CC.
9. Then suggests I take some card with my Sun Sign on it.
10. Then tells -- why I did not take my home loan from ICICI.

You know what I felt stupid for..? Not that she was hawking wares to me (akin to a road side vendor) -- but having to answer her questions politely. She had no right to try solicitation on a chance, being inside their official building was not the platform. Anyways, couple of months later I totally disengaged from ICICI due to a botched home loan (basically cheating). And shut my salary A/C too, with them. Cheaters and now ethics.

quite low. just 15k. most of it to pay my sc card bill. i don't keep above 20k in any of my 2 bank accounts. all of it goes to fd or mutual funds.

This is what bugs me. is the bank such a goner that they are looking at their own customers as prey? if it is then it's better to shut our accounts and move to some other co-operative bank who don't bug their customers. Private banks are supposed to have strict privacy rules and security measures put in place. what's the use if anyone will nilly just logs in and sees all our private info.

And also every credit card banks calling to link postpaid and utilities bills for auto debit for our convenience. Wtf? Postpaid charges are so dynamic that in between they charge you or activate any unknown services without knowledge and your normal 400bucks bill auto debits for more amount.
Its a risk unless you are very sure & 100% trust your isp, operator or utility supplier

My deal is with SBI now, for everything. They do not short-sell, when I walk into the branch. It is better to stand in a line peacefully (and face a grumpy officer) rather than sit on a plush sofa (and face a conniving "banker"). You can choose.

Cross-selling is rampant in banks IMO.

I have taken loan from govt bank. Last year when I visited them to link adhar card, lady designated branch manager tried cross selling me for loan - which I already have with them. I can't put exact conversation here though.

Couple of years back when I visited a private bank to get my statement stamped from them for a trip, guy asked me reason and tried cross-selling me insurance product.

I know that, both of these incidents differ from context what OP and other members have posted in thread. But checking personal details and 'extracting' means to cross-sell is new 'high'.

This reminds me of my friend, who during initial phase of career joined ICICI in Hyderabad (some branch which handles many IT employee salary accounts) and he used to tell us how much the various company execs make.

I guess its same in every private bank :( Axis bank is even worst and they monitor every transaction you make :(. One day someone from axis bank called me and introduced him as some priority bla bla.. and if any help i need, i can talk to him..I said thanks and wanted to disconnect call...but he started marketing about his shitty investment ideas/plans... My response was, i do not have any plan and money for investment now, for any such need i will contact u . His immediate response was.. sir you have good amount of balance in your account...(Just that day morning i received some X lacs as gratuity from my previous employer). I got furious and asked him, how do u know? he coolly responded, sir im your relationship manager.. so i do know!!! I said thanks and do not call me again... and disconnected!

Again same person called me after four months or so and repeated same story of priority/relationship manager bla bla.. (actually i thought he called me to discuss about the complaint i raised for IMPS transaction failure :( ) But again same old story his investment ideas/plans.. and the reason for his call is that day my account received some money from my EPF claim. Both the occasions, he very straight forward asked me, what is the plan for this money!!!

Of-course i could disconnect his call without hearing all his stories, but i wanted to know what exactly he is trying and how much information he knows about me..

In my experience, ICICI seems to be better(having account for the 15 years or so) and they wont torture you... I do get calls once a while from my branch and they ask me to convert to some other account type which has some benefits like free NEFT, free ATM with draw ... since i already maintain required 50K average balance. But if i say NO, they will politely accept and disconnect.

Now since I got Yes bank a/c 3 months ago they are calling me for such stupid shits.
Also RBL is worst as well. They will keep nagging you for credit cards and keep smsing as well.

This is a feature, I to started receiving calls and emails that I have so and so Relationship manager and like to contact for any queries and bla bla, I further did some looking around and found that if your balance is above some specific amount, they give you a RM, I promptly went ahead and moved my funds to a non RM bank and viola never heard from the RM again

I know it is a stupid feature which doesn't help the customer in any way, but calling and asking what's your plan for the money your account received today??? Ridiculous!

You think its something new or specific to ICICI? Cashiers in all banks (private/PSU) have access to your account details as part of their regular JD. Also, all banks do this sort of marketing. I have similar experience at both ICICI and HDFC. Cashiers don't have a lot of work in private banks and part of their job is this sort of marketing as well. Based on your balance/investment pattern, they will try to sell you FD, RD, investment schemes, credit cards etc. You can do things like FD/RD from net banking too, but if they do it, they probably get some commission or complete some targets set on them.

And yeah, Relationship managers have their uses. Typically they assign one common relationship manager for all corporate accounts of a company. In addition, if your relationship value is above a certain level, they will assign dedicated managers. While their primary job is nagging you to invest your money, they will also be helpful when you run into some issues or need to submit forms, opening accounts for family members etc and they will come to your door step and also expedite the process. And yes, they too know you account summary and transaction pattern. Personally, I don't mind having them around. I save their number so I can avoid picking their calls and when I do need some assistance, I will call them to my workplace for it.

Yes have faced a lot from Axis in first year thereafter they lost faith in me :rolleyes:and finally they concluded no time wasting behind me.:banghead:
Worst is RBL. They always try to lure people by offering pizza and bookmyshow ticket offers as if everybody eats pizza for lunch dinner and daily watch movies.

How were you able to close a salary account? When I tried to close a salary account they told that it does not belong to me and the company where I previously worked will have to do that. This was with IDBI bank.
