Songbird

Just came across this awesome app from lifehackers most underhyped apps list .

Songbird is an open-source customizable music player that's under active development.

We're working on creating a non-proprietary, cross platform, extensible tool that will help enable new ways to playback, manage, and discover music. There are lots of ways to contribute your time to the project. We'd love your help!

There are several features we're proud of, but we'll be the first to admit that others need ironing out, are experimental, or are just plain missing. There's still a lot to do.

This is really nice music manager from Mozilla with integration for ipods, shoutcast, seeqpod and lot of extensible apps . Try it out ;)

Tried it a month back. Didn't like it much so switched back to mediamonkey. Takes too much time at start.

The "too much time at start" may be the "automatically check for updates" setting (if there is one like that), see if that can be disabled. I have yet to try Songbird myself, been occasionally reading about it in blogs/news for a long long time now...

It's not very responsive too.
Takes a long time to execute an action after I click on it.

Still sticking to Windows Media player for now.

AIMP 2 handles all my audio needs , very very light on the system and memory.

Foobar , check ur CPU and Mem usage and report back plz.

If you do customization and add addons to the foobar then the cpu util is very high just for media playback but audio quality is gr8. :)

I used songbird for around a day, didn't felt like it lags anywhere. Interface is surely too much itunish. It's modular like firefox so there will be loads of extensions later on but they should really not try to make it a browser too. I like it's seeqpod and shoutcast integration.

It is very much similar to iTunes..

Because, it is product of Mozilla

Thats the problem , it will occupy 100MB with all the addons and all just to play a Mp3 file

Uninstalled it after looking at the mem usage.

Tried jRiver Media Jukebox and the MediaCenter TRIAL looks good to me.

The free jukebox is damn good to organize your music.

There is also

MediaMonkey » Free Media Jukebox, Music Manager, CD Ripper & Converter

Addons : MediaMonkey » Addons » General

mediamonkey is great.. foobar is excellent.. tried songbird.. not too happy with it.. but will wait for further updates and see then..

1.> KM Player - Video Playback

2.> AIMP 2 - Audio Playback [Lite Music while surfing]

3.> J.River Media Center - Complete Media Management [Audio , Video , Images , Documents[Just Indexing] , PDF[Just Indexing] ]

[Basically J.River can organize any file. :)]

J.River is a fantastic all in one media solution and document mgmt package.

Starting to like it a lot , did a lil bit of configuration for video playback the filters.

There is the free version that only works with audio.

Doc mgmt i think there are more specialised apps, but if the interface works for you then great.

The only gripe i have with the product is that its not so good at managing offline data. You can't drop whereist just yet.

You might want to use their forums for help with video, its more involved than just audio. Codecs etc. 13 is the latest one thats in progress much more video improvements in it than 12, but its beta ;)

Its been 2 days i have been using jRiver Media Center and must tell you guys this is the best all in one media solution i have ever used.

Look at the memory usage while its working , just perfect.

I give it my quality of approval seal

Its all i wanted in a Media Manager.

I have all my Music , Videos , Ebooks PDF , Word Docs , Excel Sheets , Text Docs all indexed

so i dont have to hunt for them in directories.

But cannot replace KM Player , it has a special place always.

Restricted KM Player only to video playback.
