Sony and Immersion have finally made up, possibly paving the way for future rumble compatibility on the sixaxis? Gamesindustry.biz certainly thinks so. A new agreement has been made which will see Immersion working on introducing rumble features into future Playstation products, although declined to comment exactly on what products these would be.

“Our new business agreement with Sony is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation community,” said Victor Viegas, CEO of Immersion. “We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products.”

Kaz Hirai also commented on the agreement saying, “We look forward to exploring with Immersion exciting new ways to bring the largest and best range of gameplay experiences to our customers.”

Huh? I thoguht Sony said rumble was last-gen. Still, If they pull this of, Rumble + Six-axis will put the Dualshock3 on top of the other gamepads.

Wel...they've gotta' say something. >_>

But that's good news. Only if Sony would've gone straight after rumble with this friendship with Immersion we would've had a Dualshock 3 right now.

This might piss off PS3 owners who already have a couple of six axis'. This and the fact that PS3 is from a later point on will no longer feature hardware emulation. Then there's MS' Zephyr and Nintendo's New Wii with DVD playback. None of the companies seem to be able to make up their mind yet about hardware choices this gen.
