I was planning on getting a decent budget level digi-cam. First off I confess, I know jack about digi-cams, but I have always been impressed with the image quality for Sony Cybershot series. Now can anyone tell me how is Sony Cybershot DSC-S930? It's retailing at Ebay for Rs.5,700 + 4GB card and a carry case. Is this a good deal?

I can't seem to find any good reviews of this camera, nor any full screen images taken from it. Any comments and other opinions are welcome. Budget range is 6k max.
 
Nope that one has dealers warranty and that is almost equivalent to no warranty. Check for the ones with sony warranty. The ones with 3 yrs sony warranty should be around 6.7k.

Also consider the Canon A480 and the Panasonic LZ-8 which are good budget cams for under 7k.

Never buy cams with dealer warranty

How do I know if they offer Sony warranty?
 
If you want a better camera w/optical image stabilization, 5X optical zoometc.. go for this : PANASONIC LUMIX LZ10 DIGITAL CAMERA WITH 3 YEARS WTY , really good dealer shipped the same day I ordered as I'd told him to.

Free 2gb Card + Pouch + 3YRS warranty. If you have a 15% ebay coupon good to go or wait for a week for new coupons to come :bleh:.

Unfortunately that listing has ended now and only LZ-10 with 1year dealers warranty is available in e-bay:@:@

You could go for the S930 from this listing. Its the Ebay deal of the week.

Rs 5290 with 3 years official warranty. And using the christmas offer you can choose an 8gb pendrive or one of the other things as your christmas gift for free

I dont think any memory is bundled along with this but being in mumbai u can get a 4gb microsd to Produo card + converter for around Rs 500 from JJ Mehta or the likes. It works just as good as a sony produo. Its a kingston card backed by lifetime warranty. 8Gb will be around 900 or so. And a sleek camera pouch ull get for around 150Rs.

Either this or the LZ10 will serve you well though i think control wise ull be better off with the LZ10 with the Manual settings, 5x zoom and Optical Image stabilization but it wont be as pocketable! :)

Edit: Just checked out the specifications of the S930 and id advise you to get the LZ10 itself. Much better cam overall :)
 
Placed an order for the Sony Cybershot S-930 from the link that Nolasco provided. Hope everything goes well. I'm really excited for my first new digital camera. No more crappy cell phone pics. :P

I'm just a casual photo taker, so hope this serves my purpose. Thanks everyone for your help.

I'm also planning to order an Original Sony Memory stick pro Duo for 1.1k with 5 year Sony India warranty. Is this good?
 
Why not go for the 8Gb Kingston MicroSd card which comes with a Pro Duo adapter? It has lifetime warranty and works perfectly in my sony W5. You'lll also have the added utility of using the microsd card separately or with an SD adapter in other devices if necessary. Should cost u around Rs 1000. J.J Mehta at dadar have stock of this. Not sure where else you will get it. Dont forget to get a nice pouch for yourself :) Should get a good one for Rs 150.
 
Alright. I got everything delivered to me properly. I had used to gift coupon for the 8GB Pen Drive. I haven't received that yet, how should I claim that? :S
 
Hey ethan did you receive the pendrive yet? Just wondering how long it takes to deliver as i too am looking at buying something from ebay using the gift coupon code:)

Hey Nolasco, yeah I did receive my Pen Drive. PHEW!

Well I got my camera on 24th of December & the Pen Drive around 2 days back. So I'd say a week or 2 tops.
