Guys, the Sony DRU810A is an OEM version of the Benq 1640, as per comparisions at CDRLabs and CDF. If the Benq 1640 isn't available where you live, pick up an 810A! Rashi claim it's available everywhere, so give it a shot. You can crossflash it with Benq 1640 FW as well, to use BSKB and QSuite 2.0 for overspeeding.

^^Rashi claimed to have launched it, 4500 MRP, which means 3700-3800 SRP. No idea if it's available, saw this on TT.

Aha, ok ! Wonder what will make a better choice though, cause I was planning on getting a 1640 soon...

For Rs.3300 I think the 1640 makes a lot more sense ;)

I had bought the Sony DRU-800A model in May when it was launched.
The retail pack came with 10 blank dvd disks + alternate black face plate + one "convinient" pin to remove the cd when the unit is not powered.;)
will install it in the proposed new rig.

Bad bad drive. Doesnt like MBI -R disks AFAIK. Its a liteon so well... write quality aint gonna be good. Sell it and get a benq 1640/DRU-810.

Come on Chaos. I've a 1673s @ 1693s. Do u need SS of KProbe and Nero CD-DVD Speed of the discs that I've burnt to prove that it's good ? I do accept that it might not be as good as the BenQ but it ain't that bad.

Post a screenie of a 16X or 12X burn on -R media... Then i'll keep my mouth shut :D.

IIRC techhead managed some awesome burns with his liteon 432@812....looong time ago
812/832 were decent drives. The 16XX is also good if the burn speed is less than 12x. Any higher and it gets totally screwed up. Sony's firmware is slightly better than litey though... I'd expect techhead to comment on this.

^^Its okay but nothing great either... Far too many PIFs and a huge spike at the end. Plus this is on good media. On bad media, it'll be worse.

On bad media, it'll be worse.

U don't overspeed bad media, pal.

Also make note of the fact that it's been burnt at double the rated speed. Am waiting for TechHead to do a burn @ 16x on a quality 8x media and post it here.

TechHead, where art thou ???

^I WAS in Delhi for a week or so, college work. Me back now, I already posted 4X ->12X burns on Maxell 002 discs. Quite nice. I have some MXLRG03 discs, 8X -R, overspeed quite well to 12X, but are questionable at 16X on the Benq.
