read abt it yestday ... sony have lost it  ... but they did manage to get some attention, although for the wrong reasons

Fcukers...i hate sony more than ever b4 now...why the hell hurt a poor animal for the sake of a silly game promotion...wonder what the animal rights ppl are doing...??

and the er semi nude models weren't that good an addition either .... sony seemed to be pretty proud of its spoils...at least the magazine sounded that way :| all those anti game politicians get another card to play with now....how stupid can sony get

There was a radio promo show where xbox 360's were given away to the guy who could drink the most water and some woman died due to a "waterr overdose". People are not really smart. Sometimes I think that if stupidity could be harnessed as a form of energy, we'd all be zipping around at light speed now.

Sony is just fueling the negative attention that the GOW series has been getting. I guess Sony just loves being the bad boy.

Some of the idiots defending the game (read the posted comments to the report at the site) seem to have missed the point.

The news is fake.

No it's not.Just because a british tabloid is the first to report it doesn't make it fake. Several news agencies incl. fox news reported the same days later.

The offal truth behind Sony's goat stunt - Games - Technology - smh.com.au

Sony Australia spokesman Adrian Christie said the event, held in Athens and attended by about 20 non-English speaking journalists, included a dead goat sourced from a local butcher.

He said while he considered the stunt - which was condemned by the International Fund for Animal Welfare - to be in "very poor taste", only the butcher had any contact with the animal.

The photograph of the decapitated goat was one of many provided by Sony, which later realised the image was distasteful.

Well the news made it out to be as if Sony butchered the goat specially for the advertisement, which isn't true.

Sony Computer Entertainment in Europe has apologized for using a decapitated goat as the centerpiece of a party in Greece to generate a buzz around the European launch of God Of War II, one of Sony's most popular video games for the PlayStation 2. The event was for journalists invited from a select group of video game publications but it quickly became a international story that sparked outrage from animal rights activists. "On this occasion we recognize that we fell short of our normal high standards of conduct and apologize for any offense caused. We are conducting an internal inquiry into the circumstances of the event in order to learn from the occurrence and put in place measures to ensure that this does not happen again."

In correspondence to the adult-only game, the party featured topless women dropping grapes into guests mouths and games that included throwing knives at a target and pulling live snakes from a pit with bare hands. A two-page spread of the party, featuring the goat, the women, and a male model dressed as the game's warrior hero Kratos, was to run in Sony's PlayStation magazine, scheduled to hit newsstands Tuesday. However, subscribers got copies earlier, which brought the event to the attention of animal rights activists and critics of video game violence causing parent company Sony Corporation to recall the entire 80,000-edition print run.

Dave Karraker, spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment in the United States said the animal was not slaughtered for the event, but was bought from a local butcher by the Greek company in charge of the party. The carcass was returned to the butcher after the event. Nick Sharples, the head of Sony public relations in Europe, did not know about the party plans. Sony was investigating who in the company approved the festivities, Karraker said.
