Sony is ready to get serious in the D-SLR camera market
Sony announced the Alpha brand for its new line of digital SLR cameras last month. As a result of Sony's acquisition of of Konica-Minolta's D-SLR business, the company is free to produce cameras that are compatible with existing Maxxum/Dynax lenses. Also as a result, Sony is taking over support and repair for existing Konica-Minolta film SLR and D-SLR cameras.
While Sony has not yet announced any specifications or what models will be included in its new Alpha range, the company has stated that it will introduce more than 20 new lenses over the next year starting this summer. Sony has also released just one image of a pre-production Alpha D-SLR camera.
