I've got the Asus A7V mobo and I recently bought the sony dvd writer. When the pc boots up it halts at the post screen saying "Secondary Drive Fails, Press F1 to continue". The drive is detected and reads and writes without problems in Win XP and 98 but the writing time for a dvd is 30-45 mins(I dunno if this is coz my pc is too slow or if there is a problem with setting DMA mode).

Any solutions?

Please :hap2:

is your writer on the same channel as teh hard disk?

have you used 40 conductor cable?

Is the writer on UDMA at all?

and OMG the A7V has TWO IDE controllers :O

The writer is on UDMA.

Pri Master and Sec Master are HDD drives. Sec Slave is the writer - I had the same setup with my previous combo drive(samsung) and it didn't show any problems(until it broke down that is ;)).

I used the 40 pin cable(the one that came with the drive was 40 pin too).

Btw, you are from kerala? What is a good pc shop in cochin?

put the HDD's as primary master and slave and put the writer as sec master

thou shalt not mix HDD's and optical drives on the same channel :p

i would recommend you use 80 conductor cable for both channels, as a DVD writer is better off with one.

you will lose your HDD1<->HDD2 transfer speeds if you put them on the same channel, but your burn speeds will increase to their correct levels only if you put the writer on a seperate channel from the HDD's

EDIT: oops i pressed quote instead of edit... never mind :D
