For a config equal to Vaio, XPS will cost 63K !! That's 11K costlier. And what you get in turn? Marginally better gfx, excellent speaker. Anything more? I don't think its worthy to spend 11k more on a similar spec lappi. ASS wise, both are good.

DAMN!!! Go on dell's website now and configure Dell XPS 15 with the components that i have mentioned... The total cost would turn out to be 52900...

He has already replied to 15'6 inch thing that his frnd is adamant on 14 inch, if you have read all the posts.

yes, I have read all the above posts... "And i am not trying to catch a running train"... Sometimes its better to compromise on something than compromising on almost everything...

Dude, are you crazy?? :bounce: The stock XPS with i5 comes at lowest cost of 51800. It seems you haven't gone through detailed specs of both lappies. Now see how cost goes high by addition of following components-

*Full HD screen-> Rs 6287

*2GB GT 540M-> Rs 2305

*Backlit Keyboard-> Rs 879
Total-> Rs 9468

So final cost-> Rs 51800+9468= Rs 61.3k

Got it now?:bangin:

You can consider this too: HP DV4-3016TX
It costs just 42k, has a much better GPU, slightly slower HDD, and comes with Windows 7 Home Basic instead of HP. But saves a huge 10k compared to the Sony ones.

^^ i already suggested it, go through above posts. He complained about the heating issues of the lappi. And to an extent i agree. :| HP builds its machines with enough raw power, but not the stability/power to handle it.

Does the laptop which OP is thinking to buy has Full HD screen? and to clear a lot of doubts of you i would like to show you a screenshot of the config of Dell XPS 15 which would cost 52k if OP would configure it in my way...

I hope you wouldn't like to debate on this topic anymore coz i can really go on and go on unless i am not wrong...

Dude, dude, dude!!

Did you even read my last post?

It seems you haven't gone through detailed specs of both lappies.

Plus you added just the 540M gfx in config, what about Full HD screen and backlit keyboard?

*Full HD screen-> Rs 6287

*Backlit Keyboard-> Rs 879

And NO, the lappies which OP has given as an option does not have FUll HD.

OP doesn't require Full HD screen... And if he requires backlit keyboard then the total cost would turn out to be 53600...

And FYI you selected the wrong XPS 15 and configured it... select the one which costs 46k...

alternates have been discussed to the hilt. Xps 15 has been ruled out due to its heftiness. Speaker volume is no big deal. He can use a headphone on the move and speakers at home,

let me make the point clear. He wants a 14" that weights less than ~2.5kg. So please stick to the topic. No more xps 15 posts in the thread.
The main purpose of the thread was to get opinion of vaio ca15 or similar vaio user opinions. All ot posts wil be purged once i get to my pc.

^^ +1
So you came on any final decision ?
In the first post or title i never requested for suggest a laptop for my needs. The decision had been made already after much thought.
I just wanted to know about minor issues or any potential deal breaker if any from vaio users. But the thread has taken a detour!
May be i should have added couple more lines in the first post.
The only model that I had in my (Not him) was the DV4 since it has a slightly better config for ~20% cheaper price! But I doubted that the cooling wont be good and the users have confirmed the same. As RS4 said a 14" form factor and sub 2.5kg are uncompromisable needs.

Sony vaio after sales service is neither bad nor great, but they do solve your problem if its under warranty but if its out of warranty then the repairs are expensive which is common with all the laptop brands like hp,dell,acer,lenovo etc

The major plus point of getting a sony vaio in india is that you can get 3 yrs warranty at just 2.5k which cant be matched by any other brand at any place in the world, For Dell XPS 3 yrs warranty costs whopping 11k and even in USA the cost of 3 yrs sony vaio warranty is $300, so you are getting the best deal in the world for a 3 yr laptop warranty :)

you can refer this thread for more info on how to get sony vaio extended warranty: http://www.techenclave.com/laptops/sony-vaio-extended-warranty-info-issues-194792.html

I had actually made a post about the dv4 today afternoon on this thread. Dont know why it never showed up here!

@RS4 - Dell's warranty extension differs on models right ?

nIoNv.jpg

I am paying 15.5k INR extra for two more years. The rep also mentioned the extension is of International Warranty [but without complete cover outside India :|] . Btw it's Complete Cover, even if you shit/pee/drop coffee on your laptop they will replace yours. My cousin has Dell SXPS 1645. Before sleeping, he kept it on a chair, near his bed. Neither me or he knows what he had done in sleep, when morning he woke up, the chair was upside down & lappie was broke completely. Dell replaced it without questioning anything & gave him new lappie. Hope this explains why it is whopping costly :)

Not sure how good is Sony's a.s.s. which costs just 3.5k. My friend had neutral experience with them. Btw, he was asked to visit Sony Service Centre for lappie repair. So it does not provide on site warranty ?

^Nope, sony offers only carry in warranty.

@rhlravi - That point was made initially itself and was finally ended saying its a mini heater. So delted along with many other XPS 15 for/ against posts as OT/not adding value to the thread.

^So if there is no Sony Center in the city I live, then what to do ? Can we courier them ? or only visiting nearest Sony Center in another city ?

^^ Nopes, in that 11k dell xps 15 warranty only the first 1yr is complete cover, the rest 2 yrs are just normal warranties, you can check out dell india website for latest prices and the sony warranty is not 3.5k, its just 2.5k

Sony Onsite warranty is applicable only to some cities and some models but who cares when your stuff is getting repaired properly and warranty is available at that price.

And sony service centres are available in all the cities, you can check here: Service Centres : Access Service Information : Support : Sony India

I guess you are talking about new laptop. And about warranty prices, I was telling you mine. My Dell XPS 15 came with 1 year complete cover. And now I am extending it to 2 more years, which costs 15.5K with complete cover. Check the screenie I posted :)

How come no one shared Sony a.s.s experience here in TE ? any threads ?

@darkangel - sorry, if we are going OT :)

@avi - There was one thread on how a Vaio user cant get a new adapter since the service center didnt have stock and had to wait for few days.(His adapter didnt work after a few days. But dont remember exact details. Search a bit in TE) His laptop was brand new and since there was no adapter he couldnt use it for few days.

@RS4 - Also depends on the sales volumes. Vaio is a small player in the global laptop market whereas Dell is a giant. Even in India Vaio is not among the top 5 players IINM.

@RS4 - Agree with you. And why other's experience, Dell took 3-4 months to replace my laptop. But I have hell lot of patience :P [currently, ebay hasn't sent me two promotional gifts, when items were purchased 5 & 6 months ago :P]

I had throttling issue with my old 1645 & it took them months to replace & give me new one. However I got upgraded model. Detailed story in the link I posted.

EDIT : Mine was picked on 21st Sept & I received new lappie on Dec 20. You do the math :bleh:
